We were lucky to catch up with Kathryn Padrick recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kathryn, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know
The most important lesson I have learned is to block out others opinion of what you are capable of doing. There were many instances where I was told that I was dreaming too big or that certain things were not possible for me to achieve. The turning point was when I took a look at my life and it was not the life I wanted to live or deserved. I took a leap of faith and could not be happier and prouder of myself for taking the first step. Not knowing what the end would look like or if I would be capable was scary. But the thought of not making a change and accepting where I had landed was scarier. Taking the risk anyways, has paid off in a big way, personally and professionally.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been a licensed Realtor since 2016, prior to obtaining my license I worked in marketing. The last 3 years I have been in the new construction sector, selling new homes to families in the Greater Tampa Bay area. My mentor told me that new home sales was a niche that allowed agents to gain experience and find great success. At the end of that statement they mentioned I would also be overworked and new home sales consultants are known to burn out quickly. Although they were not wrong about either parts of that statement, what I have been able to learn about myself is my greatest personal achievement from the industry I am in. Success does not solve problems, it forces you to become a better version of yourself.
I see my role as a real estate professional as a privilege. Helping a first generation American purchase their first home, making a family’s Florida living dream a reality from across the nation, and being a part of a family bettering their life is something that is hard to put into words. I think that is what I am most grateful for, the opportunity to help others.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
“Tough(er) Market” & “Buying the Experience” by Jeff Shores, Amy O’ Connor, & Ryan Taft,
The builder I work for, has invested back into their team with new home sales specific training seminars created by Jeff Shores. This training focuses on what is most important in real estate and that is the families we are helping. The only person responsible for your success is you, because there are many factors that we do not have control over. Being honed in on the elements that you can control are what keeps the ball rolling when interest rates are volatile or the news media is inciting panic amongst home buyers.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
How you make people feel is what they remember you by. I have had buyers tell me how a salesperson made them feel unwelcome or didn’t take the time to find out what it is they are really looking for in a home. Let’s be honest, not every home buying story is a happy one. Whether it’s a loss of a loved one or a contentious divorce. Making the home buying experience about the person in front of you and not about your next sale is how you build trust. I want to learn about the buyers I work with and help them navigate the home buying experience. I stay consistent in that and I know people feel the difference. Not only because they will tell you directly but they will send referrals. Thats how you know you did your job well.
