We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katherine Lash. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katherine below.
Alright, Katherine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As humans, we have windows in our lives where we suffer the “dark night of the soul.” Usually, these are times when a great shift has occurred (such as a divorce or a death), and we feel as if the rug has been pulled out from under us.
All that we know or believe to be true can come into scrutiny. As a result, we lose our sense of security and safety. The road ahead is unclear. I was in the “dark night” phase and needed to re-group and redefine myself. I had to dive deep into my mission and purpose. More importantly, I had to learn to believe in myself and that what I had to offer was important and worth sharing.
As the sun beat down and the ocean breeze blew my hair, I became aware that I was put on this earth to serve. I would assist others in gaining the tools and awareness to navigate through trying times.
Having that realization was the first (and most important) step to creating my new life and my new company. But the challenge was still before me. I was clear about the “why”, but it would take a comprehensive approach to outline the “what” and the “how.”
What do people need to truly transform themselves? How can this transformation unfold holistically? To what degree are the obstacles in our lives due to a loss of “meaning” or an “old story” that prevents us from seeing our potential? These were the pressing questions. I spent weeks pondering them.
Then came the exciting idea of creating a safe place for others to explore these questions. I would create a company where a person could journey on a “quest for spirit.” It would be a modern “walkabout.” I would create a unique Journey for my guests, and that is when I developed the SpiritQuest Path to Transformation™. Which I restructured in 2018.
The Transformational path would be a journey comprised of four steps: Grounded Presence, Somatic Resonance, the SpiritQuest Method™, and the Wholeness Integration. I knew that my idea was unique, and incorporated all the aspects to reclaim oneself and establish balance and peace in life. My excitement was beyond measure.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To develop my SpiritQuest Sedona Retreats brand, and my SpiritQuest Path to Transformation™ I started with reflecting and journaling on my own life and what had inspired me, and what had healed me. My self-inquiry led me to a list of imperatives for happiness in my life: Nature, touch, trust, correct family relations, healthy language, and honoring of self.
The SpiritQuest Path to Transformation™ was to incorporate all of these. I designed a specific protocol for my new retreat company to follow when creating custom programs. In a computerized age when people are feeling like they are being treated like just another statistic, I knew I could offer true value by maintaining that human connection and curated, bespoke service.
Step One: Grounded Presence
The mind can be a dangerous playground. It can get stuck in loops and old stories. I would start each retreat with an experience out on the red rocks of Sedona. The purpose is to move the client from the mind, back into the body. This is the fastest way to force oneself back into the present moment. Now the healing can begin.
Step Two: Somatic Resonance
The body can hold onto trauma long after it has been “sorted out” in the mind. During the retreat experience, I would include in their program’s somatic sessions such as breathwork and sound healing. These are just two somatic sessions of many that we offer. The purpose is to release tension, rational ruminations, and re-set cellular memory.
Step Three: The SpiritQuest Method™.
This is where the most profound opportunities for Transformation occur. The practitioners at SpiritQuest would become Transformational coaches utilizing Five Pillars inspired by four influential historical figures and their philosophies:
• Søren Kierkegaard represents the 19th-century foundation of existentialism. Our coaches use this to help clients find their “personal truth.”
• Martin Buber transitioned those existential ideas into the 20th century, focusing on the “I-Thou” relationship. Our coaches utilize this by cultivating authentic, ‘I-Thou’ connections
• Virginia Satir, the “Mother of Family Therapy,” applied relational theories to family systems mid-century. SpiritQuest coaches use this to identify and deconstruct limiting childhood patterns.
• Bert Hellinger developed his systemic “Family Constellations” approach later in the 20th century, having been influenced by the work of Satir and others before him. Our coaches utilize this model to harmonize the client’s genealogical and systemic history.
Step Four: Integrative Wholeness
This final step involves integrating the experience for the client and developing a unique plan of action for incorporating all they learned during their SpiritQuest Sedona Retreat. I have written in-depth articles in my resource blog further explaining these steps.
Our programs take place at our unique and beautiful retreat center in Sedona, AZ, along with outings to vortex sites on the red rocks. Most programs incorporate Eastern modalities, Western modalities, and Nature modalities.
The result is an enthusiastic staff devoted to the process of healing and self-growth. Since inception, we have facilitated thousands of SpiritQuest Journeys with profound results. Our holistic, custom retreats have turned lives around for people who have struggled for decades; in fact, many of our clients say they accomplished more in just three days than in ten years of traditional talk therapy.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation is built on the intersection of sophisticated depth and radical accessibility. While we utilize a high-level psychological and philosophical framework (the SpiritQuest Method™), we maintain a bespoke, human-to-human connection that prevents our clients from feeling like a statistic.
By offering a tiered range of services, from intensive custom retreats to accessible day packages, we’ve stayed true to our mission of making profound healing ethical, consistent, and available to anyone truly ready for change.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We believe transformation is a journey, not an event. After a premium retreat, we maintain connection through our newsletter and the SpiritQuest Sedona Retreat Lifeline, our online coaching platform that provides ongoing support.
To foster loyalty, we offer affordable Friday-Sunday “tune-up” group retreats and welcome returning clients for ala carte sessions whenever they are in town.
We are especially excited for 2027, our 20th anniversary, which we will celebrate with special ceremonies, vortex adventures, and significant loyalty discounts to thank the thousands of seekers who have trusted us with their path over the last two decades.
