We were lucky to catch up with Kate Moshika recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kate , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I created Moshika because I saw a real gap in the lash industry. As a makeup artist and beauty creator, I struggled to find eyelash products that were clean, easy to apply, and versatile enough for both beginners and professionals- without compromising comfort or eye safety. There were very few options that worked beautifully for petite eye shapes while still feeling seamless for everyday wear and elevated enough for special occasions. And even more importantly, I wanted something that met professional and health-conscious standards- products that I could confidently use on clients and on myself.
With my background in medical sciences, safety, hygiene, and ingredient transparency have always been non-negotiable for me. I wanted lashes that were not only beautiful, but developed with clean formulations and professional-level quality in mind.
After seeing my clients struggle with irritation, messy glue, and complicated application, I realized this wasn’t just a personal frustration- it was a market gap. So I built the solution. Moshika was created to bridge beauty and professional standards- clean, comfortable, beginner-friendly lashes that meet makeup artist expectations and prioritize eye health.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the Founder and CEO of Moshika Beauty, a clean, professional-grade lash brand created to bridge the gap between artistry and health-conscious beauty.
My background is in health sciences, and although I was originally on the path toward medicine, I found my true calling in beauty and makeup artistry. While working as a makeup artist, I consistently saw the same problem: lash products were either too complicated, uncomfortable, messy, or not designed for petite and diverse eye shapes. There was a clear gap for something clean, easy to apply, beginner-friendly, and still professional enough for artists.
That’s how Moshika Beauty was born.
We specialize in vegan, cruelty-free lash systems- including our signature adhesive liner and reusable, comfortable lashes- designed for both everyday wear and elevated occasions. Because of my PhD in Health Sciences, safety, ingredient awareness, and hygiene standards are core to our brand. Beauty, especially around the eyes, should never compromise health.
What sets us apart is our balance of simplicity and performance. Our products are created for the woman applying lashes for the first time and the professional artist backstage at a runway show. We focus on comfort, seamless application, and thoughtful design for petite and diverse eye shapes- an area often overlooked in the industry.
I’m most proud that Moshika has grown with integrity. We’ve expanded into major retail spaces and worked alongside emerging artists and fashion events, but we’ve never compromised our clean standards or our mission.
At its heart, Moshika Beauty is about regret-free beauty- products that are efficient, safe, empowering, and designed to make confidence effortless in the comfort of your home.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We actually met in medical school- yes, Moshika started in scrubs before it ever started in glam. Iqra and I were both driven, ambitious, and deeply committed to excellence – which is what initially connected us. Medical school is intense, and it has a way of revealing people’s character quickly. We bonded over discipline, long study nights, big dreams, and conversations about building something meaningful beyond ourselves.
Even back then, we both knew we were wired to create impact. While our paths evolved, our shared foundation in health sciences shaped how we think- with precision, integrity, and long-term vision.
When I began developing the concept for Moshika Beauty, it wasn’t just about launching a lash brand. It was about creating products that met professional standards while prioritizing health and safety, especially around something as delicate as the eyes. Iqra understood that instinctively because she comes from the same rigorous academic environment. She believed in the mission from the beginning.
Our partnership works because it’s rooted in trust and shared values. We both care deeply about quality, transparency, and doing things the right way- not just the fast way. Coming from medical training and being raised in an immigrant household, we approach product development and brand building with research-driven thinking and a high standard of accountability. What makes our story special is that Moshika wasn’t built from a trend- it was built from lived experience, education, and a long-standing friendship grounded in respect.
Meeting in medical school gave us discipline. Building Moshika together gave us purpose.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Leaving medical school was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I had built my identity around becoming a doctor. It was the “safe” path. Walking away felt like disappointing expectations, risking stability, and stepping into the unknown. There were moments of doubt, fear, and questioning whether I was making a mistake. But deep down, I knew I wasn’t walking away from impact- I was walking toward alignment.
I took a leap and became a full-time beauty content creator and makeup artist. It wasn’t glamorous at first. It was long hours, self-funding, learning marketing from scratch, and proving to myself that I could build something real. Through working closely with clients, I saw how frustrated women were with lash products- irritation, messy glue, complicated application. I experienced it myself. That frustration became Moshika Beauty.
We started primarily online and through social media because that’s what I knew. I tried to enter retail through fashion boutiques and was rejected multiple times. Each “no” stung — especially after already pivoting my entire life.
Then one day at a charity event, I met a med spa owner who believed in our mission. She saw the value in clean, health-conscious lashes and said yes. That single moment changed everything.
Today, Moshika is carried in over 20 medical spas, medical practices, and beauty salons across the U.S., with some international placements. The irony isn’t lost on me- I left medical school, yet our brand is now trusted in medical environments nationwide.
That pivot taught me that courage isn’t about certainty. It’s about trusting yourself enough to take the leap- even when the path looks completely different than the one you planned.
