We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karanie Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Karanie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I took photography as a class in college and quite frankly fell in love with it. As I was going through the course, my work has always caught the eye of my professor. That’s when I thought to myself…I could do this. Photography is an art of expression. I’ve always grew up around art and the love of creativity. My family has a strong background in creativity. My grandmother is a former seamstress, my aunt is a liturgical dancer and my uncle was a musician. It’s all in the family.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, my name is Karanie Miller. I am from Memphis Tennessee. I graduated from Mississippi State University in 2018. I have a major in broadcasting. I discovered photography while I was in college. I took it to kind of see if it was something that I would be interested in. I come from a family of artist my uncle was a former painter. My aunt was a former liturgical dancer. My grandmother was a former seamstress . Throughout taking this course, I found it photography was just another way to express your artistic ideas. It was a great outlet to express creativity. I passed all my test and all of my assignments with flying colors. My professor often commented on how I had an eye for this and how he thought that I would be successful in a year after graduation Kandid Kamera Photography was born. Kandi camera offers a safe space to be yourself to show your light and have fun while doing it. I think photography helps a lot of families and lot of people celebrate happy moments and showcase personal growth or accomplishments. I enjoy seeing people feel confident and leave happy with a product I produced.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

First off, let me just say that getting clientele for photography can be super hard and challenging because there are a lot of photographers out there. Some people may think that photography is oversaturated. There’s also this new thing that everyone loves called AI. Everyone uses AI to edit their photos now or even create an entire photo shoot but one thing they cannot be duplicated is originality. Being true to yourself and who you are cannot be replicated. With anything in life, especially when it comes to your business, allow it to always be you. Being consistent and not changing who you are will keep you in the business. I will always keep people watching and wondering. Watching and wondering, turns into booking. So overall take from this is to be consistent. Allow yourself to continue to be yourself. Put your best product forward and be original l. what’s meant for you will be for you.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source for new clients is the Internet. Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
