Kalvin, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Music was always in me. The creativity, the melodies, the urge to express myself ,all that was there early. But when I first started taking it seriously, I was in a phase of life where I was really figuring myself out, going through my own ups and downs, and learning what my voice actually stood for. I wasn’t just making noise anymore, I was starting to make music that meant something, so Honestly Looking back now , I respect my timing. Every setback, every lesson, every late night trying to figure life out . all of that poured into my sound and my story. So yeah, the “what if I started sooner” thought crosses my mind, but truthfully, I believe I stepped into music exactly when I was ready to bring something honest to it. And I’m just getting started.
Kalvin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those just getting familiar with me, I go by ITS PHASE, coming straight out of the north side of San Antonio, Texas. I’m an artist rooted in hip hop, trap, and heartbreak music, real emotion, real situations, real stories. My sound lives in that space where pain, hustle, and truth all meet.
I first got into music back in middle school during computer class. That was the first time we were really introduced to using apps and digital tools, and something just clicked for me. What started as curiosity turned into passion, and over time I realized music wasn’t just something I liked , it was something I needed. As life kept happening and I kept growing, my music started reflecting real experiences instead of just ideas.
Right now I’m focused on putting music out to the public, doing features, creating YouTube content, and performing whenever I get the chance. Everything I do is about building connection and letting people into my world through the sound.
What really sets me apart is the honesty in my voice. When you hear ITS PHASE, you’re hearing the truth. I’m not trying to sound like anybody else, and I’m not chasing trends I’m telling my story the way I lived it. That authenticity is something my listeners feel immediately.
One of my proudest moments so far has been hitting my first 100K+ views on Instagram. That was a big milestone for me because it showed that people are really connecting with what I’m putting out. But honestly, I’m just getting started.
More than anything, I want potential fans and supporters to know that I genuinely appreciate every single person who presses play on my music. Without the listeners, there is no artist. I’m here to give the world real-life stories through my sound , the ups, the heartbreak, the grind, all of it.
This journey hasn’t come easy, and it’s not supposed to. You’ve got to work for this. I’m grinding every day, staying focused, and leveling up with every move I make. That hunger and consistency are what keep pushing ITS PHASE forward.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media wasn’t something that happened overnight , it came from consistency, patience, and staying real with my content. In the beginning, I was just posting my music, testing different types of videos, and learning what people actually connected with. Some posts would do numbers, some would flop, but I kept showing up.
One thing that really helped me grow was being intentional about short-form content. I do a lot of reels and short videos, and I make sure I upload across all social media platforms, not just one. That helped me reach different audiences and gave my content more chances to be discovered. Over time, I started seeing what style of content people were really locking in with, and I leaned into that.
What also made a big difference was staying authentic. I never tried to force a persona or copy what everybody else was doing. I let people hear the truth through my voice and see the real person behind the music. That honesty built real trust with my audience.
Hitting my first 100K+ views on Instagram was a big turning point. It showed me that consistency plus real emotion in the content can reach people far beyond your immediate circle. From there, I doubled down , more posting, more reels, more engagement with supporters, and constantly improving my quality.
For anyone just starting to build their social media presence, my biggest advice is: don’t wait to be perfect. Start now and stay consistent. Growth takes time.

Engage with your supporters , don’t just post and disappear.
Keep leveling up your quality as you grow.
Most importantly, understand that it don’t come easy. You’ve got to work for it. But if you keep grinding every day and stay focused on your craft, the audience will come. I’m still building, still learning, and still pushing forward and that’s the mindset you’ve got to keep.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is knowing that something I created from real life experiences can actually reach somebody else and make them feel understood. When people tell me a song helped them through heartbreak, stress, or a tough moment, that hits different. That’s bigger than numbers. I make music from a real place , real pain, real growth, real situations , so seeing listeners connect with that energy reminds me why I started in the first place. It’s not just about dropping tracks; it’s about building a connection with people who might be going through the same things I’ve been through.
