We were lucky to catch up with Kaitlyn M. Sawyer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kaitlyn M., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
While hindsight can often make us question the timing of certain decisions, I believe that everything happens for a reason. In the case of my photography career, I believe that the timing was just right.
Starting my creative career later allowed me to gather valuable life experiences, gain a deeper understanding of the world, and develop a unique perspective that I now bring to my art. These experiences continue to shape my artistic vision and provide me with an outlet for my emotions and create stories that I find meaningful.
On the other hand, starting earlier might have given me a better chance to refine my skills and establish myself in the industry. However, I believe that timing is not the root of success. It’s the passion, dedication, and continuous learning that truly matter.
Looking back at my childhood, I didn’t have specific goals of becoming a photographer. In fact, I stumbled upon the world of photography by chance. As a child, I was always closed off and scared of the world around me. My art has provided experiences that continue to push me past those fears and learn more about who I am.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not be familiar with me, my name is Kaitlyn M. Sawyer, and I am a Creative & Inclusive Photographer based in Tennessee!
Several years ago, I found myself captivated by the power of visual storytelling. I was drawn to the ability of photographs to evoke emotions, capture moments, and tell the stories of my clients in the light they wish to be seen.
Through dedicated learning, experimentation, and continuous practice, I honed my skill in photography. I sought inspiration from the works of Lindsay Adler, Annie Leibovitz, filmmaker Chris Cunningham, and so many more. I love to immerse myself in various genres and styles and never settle on just one. There is so much inspiration out there!
As a creative photographer, I offer a range of services and creative works. I specialize in capturing an alternative perspective of individuals, nature, and moments in time. Whether it’s portrait photography, landscape shots, or documentary-style storytelling, my goal is to create images that resonate with viewers and tell compelling stories.
One of the key problems I aim to solve for my clients is to capture their essence authentically. I believe that photography should go beyond just capturing a likeness; it should show the true spirit and emotions of the subject. By creating a comfortable and relaxed environment during our sessions, I ensure that my clients feel at ease and their true personalities shine through.
This connection allows me to create photographs that are not only visually appealing but also deeply meaningful and personal. All while having a great time! I genuinely love what I do and hope to spread my creativity with those around me.
Ultimately, my brand is built on the belief that photography has the power to inspire, evoke emotions, and tell stories that go beyond words.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media, particularly on TikTok, has been an exciting and challenging journey. At first, it wasn’t easy, and I didn’t receive a lot of views or engagement.
However, I persisted, and through consistent effort and determination, I managed to grow my TikTok page enough to share my art with the world. It has introduced me to other AMAZING creators around the world that are so kind and inspiring!
On the technical side, I experimented with various types of content, paying attention to what resonated the most with my viewers. By observing trends and analyzing the algorithm, I could identify the preferences and interests of my audience. This enabled me to create content that was both authentic to my style and aligned with what my followers wanted to see.
My advice for those starting to build their social media presence is to embrace patience. Building an audience takes time and effort, and it’s important not to get discouraged by slow initial growth. Keep creating and sharing content that aligns with your passion and resonates with your target audience.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Growing up in a small town with limited opportunities, I realized early on that I wanted to create a life where I could be genuinely happy while pursuing something I love. My creative journey is driven by the desire to experience life on my own terms, rather than conforming to the expectations set by others.
One of my primary goals is to find joy and fulfillment in what I do. I believe that pursuing a career that aligns with my passion for creative photography is essential to my overall happiness. Immersing myself in this art form allows me to express myself authentically and explore the world through my unique lens.
It’s worth mentioning that mental health has presented unique challenges in my creative journey. However, it has also given me a deeper understanding of myself and the power of creativity as a form of self-expression and therapy. Through my photography, I can channel my emotions, express my experiences, and create a sense of order and beauty amidst the chaos. It allows me to find peace and connect with others who may resonate with similar struggles.
Beyond personal fulfillment, I also aim to inspire others. I want to show that it’s possible to break free from societal expectations and pursue a path that brings joy and fulfillment. I hope to encourage individuals who may feel limited by their circumstances or fear of judgment to embrace their passions and create their own paths towards happiness.
