Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaitee Villarreal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kaitee, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
A client recently told me she was moving away and we only had 1 more appointment together before she left. Mind you, she has been with me for me 6 years and has continued to support me in everything I do and every service I offer. So naturally I’m sad she’s leaving. So before her appointment I was able to grab some flowers and chocolates to give to her as a “goodbye”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Kaitee a licensed cosmetologist, and with my license I offer quite a few beauty services. Hair Styling, Makeup and Spa services.
I started my Makeup career 9 years ago when a family friend asked me to do her makeup for her wedding. Fast forward a couple years, my clients practically begged me to do hair so I added that to my list of services. I saw a need to help my clients with their skin instead of just covering it with makeup. So now I naturally offer skin services and consultations to help women feel not so lost in the skincare world. I couldn’t handle all the work that’s been thrown at me so I’ve slowly and carefully built a hair and makeup team. I hope to teach stylists around the world and inspire them to do what I do.
I’m an OCD clean freak who overshares. I think this is a big thing that sets me apart from others. I give as much knowledge to my clients as I possibly can. They can either feel confident that I know what I’m doing or take that knowledge and use it to better themselves. I’m extremely organized and clean (which unfortunately is not prevalent in my industry) Creatives tend to be less analytical, cleanly and more artistic, free spirited.
I’ve wanted for years to have a studio with a private bathroom, lounge and kitchen and I finally have It. And now that I have it, I’m working towards my next big goal. Sometimes it’s hard to sit back and look at how far you’ve come and be proud of where you’re at. Entrepreneurship is a weird rollercoaster of emotions and the last thing we do is stop to appreciate what we’ve accomplished. So I’m proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and just making it happen. Doing it afraid.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Oh covid. Because it’s changed EVERYTHING. The wedding Industry completely shut down for a couple months and was down for about 6-8 months. I knew that when things opened back up It was going to get crazy. I worked on my back office. Systemized everything that I possibly could and worked on improving my health to take on the stress and long days that were coming. I worked on my online presence and created portfolios of the last 6 years of my work. updated my website and grew my online presence as best I could. So all in all, during the time I couldn’t make any substantial money. I worked on the things that would allow me to get more clients and service them better/faster easier.

How did you build your audience on social media?
This is a pretty complex question. But the answer is simple. Simplify what your selling, talk to you ideal client and show them why they need you/service/product. Find a platform that comfortable for you and test it out. I prefer different social media platforms for different things. For example: Instagram is great for sharing fun and artistic videos. Pinterest is for ideas, tutorials and selling products. Youtube is longer/educational content. And last for me is tik Tok It’s a fun place to be yourself and show behind the scenes, and educate potential clients what it’s like being around you. Certain content does great on different platforms. You have to know where your ideal client is browsing and talk to them.
