We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christy Clark. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christy below.
Christy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
As a business owner, I feel it’s important to show your clients how much you appreciate them. At Christy Clark Photography we do our best at showing our clients how grateful we are for them, not only do we go above and beyond before, during and after their photo sessions making sure they are 100% happy with our service and their photos but if you are one of our wedding couples, we ship you a cute welcome box filled with goodies such as a t-shirt, a mug with our logo, a coupon for a FREE print and so much more! It’s our way of saying “thank you!” We also go above and beyond before and on the couples wedding day to make sure our couples are relaxed, and enjoying their day.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
If you are new to my company, Hi! I’m Christy :) I am a couples & wedding photographer based in Miami, FL. but we travel all of FL and the United States.
I always had a passion for photography, I was about 6 years old when I got my first camera and from that moment on, I took photos of EVERYTHING. My grandfather was a photographer in Cuba, back when it was only black and white photos. He would hand paint color into each photo he captured. My passion came from him and seeing all his vintage cameras and the photos he once took. I know he’d be proud of me today. As an adult, I worked a 9-5 at an aviation company from the age of 18, I attended Barry University where I majored in Elementary Education. I worked at an Elementary School for 5 years and all along this time I would take on FREE photo clients on the weekends. A few years went by and someone told me “You should be charging for your work.” So I did just that! I started charging and Christy Clark Photography was born. Five years ago, I left the corporate world, and continued my photography business full time. I knew I had to narrow down what I would take photos of. Was it family photos? Was it Children? Nothing filled my heart more than photographing my couples on their special day. So here I am a FULL TIME Wedding Photographer.
What sets my company apart from the many other amazing photographers in FL? My ability to capture true, raw, organic emotions in each photo. The way I explain it to my clients is, I do not capture a pose, I want to capture a moment, a feeling so when they look back at their photos, they know exactly how they felt in that moment.
What am I most proud of? I’m most proud of my determination, my will to never give up and to look back and see where I first started to where I am now, it’s an incredible feeling. I never thought I’d be where I am today. Meeting new couples, learning about them, and most important becoming friends with them!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m not going to lie, Social Media is hard and a full time job within itself! I grew my audience organically. It’s taken years to get the followers I have, but I did it in an honest way. I did not buy my followers. I showed up everyday and I still show up everyday. We have to pivot anytime there are changes in the social media world such as their algorithms but If you want your business to thrive in today’s world, it’s a must! Show your face on your stories, post on your feed, make reels, do it all. :) It’s hard but worth it. I’d say about 90% of my clients come from social media.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is seeing my final product. We put so much work into planning a photo session. From getting to know more about our clients, to choosing a location, what to wear and the list goes on to seeing the final image, printed. Wow! what a feeling. I look back at photos I’ve taken and not to toot my own horn but I am taken back from where I first started to now.
Many hours, and a lot of money spent on continuing education such as workshops and offering free photo sessions (model calls) to practice something new I’ve learned and to see all that come together and look at what I have accomplished with each photo session is so rewarding. Totally fulfills my heart.
