Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kadie Chiera. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kadie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

It’s very common in our industry to name your company after yourself, however, there are three of us so that become more challenging. We started with different combinations of our last names, initials, first initials, but none of those iterations really felt right. We quickly moved on to other options and even asked for input from friends and family. It was a friend who suggested several meaningful words as names and Élan was one of them. We all loved the meaning of the french word, which is to move with panache, or style, and energetic confidence.

We also wanted to convey that we are a group, without necessarily defining how large or small. The other part of our name, Design House, is partly inspired by the fashion industry but is also quite literal with the use of the word House. To us, Élan Design House conveys exactly what we represent – sophistication, style, and warmth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Our studio transforms residential and boutique hospitality spaces. We focus on the details – the thoughtfully conceptualized and intentionally customized touches that make a space as one-of-a-kind as those who call it home. We approach each project with a balanced background of experience, education, and expertise. We pride ourselves on making sure our clients feel heard and valued. We operate with integrity, intuition and a love of inspired design.

Our job doesn’t end once the design is completed. We collaborate with contractors, architects and builders to make sure our client’s design comes to life. We are there throughout the building process to ensure things are installed correctly, to troubleshoot those inevitable on-site challenges, and to create solutions before our client even hears about the problem. Our designers are truly the biggest advocate for clients throughout the building and renovation process.

What sets us apart is that we are a partnership of three. Two Principal Designers, each with a degree in interior design, certifications from NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) and NCIDQ (National Counsel for Interior Design Qualification) and over 10 years of experience. As the Business Director I take care of all things apart from design, operating the business seamlessly, allowing the designers to truly focus on our clients.

How’d you meet your business partner?

The three of us met while working at another interior design firm together. When the owner decided to downsize and focus on her growing family, it was Kilian who proposed starting a business together. Having had the unique opportunity of working together before going into business was invaluable. We all went into the endeavor with confidence in our skill sets and seamless way of working together.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Interior design is largely a referral based industry. For us, that aligns with what we value most as professionals; our relationships. Our two principal designers have fostered great relationships with clients and industry partners over the last 12 years, so repeat clients are a common occurrence.

Interior design services are not something people need regularly, so keeping in touch is imperative in growing our network. We want people to immediately think of Élan Design House when they hear someone talk about needing a designer. We also pride ourselves on being a source of value – for interior design and beyond.
