We recently connected with Justin Honigstein and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Jambox was created to give Charlotte creatives, especially musicians, a place to practice and grow their craft. As musicians ourselves we know the importance of a proper rehearsal space. Playing in a garage, storage unit, or dirty old rundown music practice space just won’t cut it for most of us. That is why we decided to make a new space where musicians of all kind can feel comfortable, meet others, and be inspired. The importance of a creative space can not be understated. We have seen and heard the success stories of Charlotteans who come through Jambox. Whether they meet a new band member, find a videographer for a music video, or just write a new song, we are proud to be a part of their growth as artists.
We want to be a part of and help the Charlotte music scene grow. We have partnered with local organizations like We Rock Charlotte, Tosco Music, Bold Music, Music Everywhere CLT, Creative Mornings, and others to provide support and opportunities for Charlotte musicians.

Justin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Justin Honigstein. Prior to moving to Charlotte to open and run Jambox, I was a full-time musician in Chicago. My love of music goes back as far as I can remember and I was lucky enough to be in a place where I could play everyday. I worked both a solo singer-guitarist and as the front man of my Chicago based rock band, Honeystone.
In 2019, I met an executive at Morningstar Storage in Charlotte who told me about an idea they had to build a dedicated space for musicians. Morningstar had noticed that bands were using their storage units to practice. But, using a storage unit as a band is not ideal! There seemed to be a demand for places for musicians to practice, so we decided to create a space with soundproof rooms for musicians to use. I moved down in January of 2020 to oversee construction and I have been running Jambox ever since.
I am very proud of the impact we have had on musicians’ lives. I often hear from our clients about how much the space means to them. Bands tell me that without Jambox they wouldn’t have a place to play – or teachers say that they wouldn’t have a place to provide lessons for their students. Jambox is different from other music rehearsal spaces because we care about our customers and our community.

If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Yes. Initially we planned to just rent out our space for hourly and monthly rehearsals. But after opening we decided to rent out our common area for events. We have seen great success using Jambox as an event space.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
An internet presence, the majority of people say they found us from google search.
