We recently connected with Justin Douglas and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is Soft Glam, Real Talk, a media series that grew out of years of storytelling, reflection, and evolution.
The foundation of the project actually began with Motivational Mondays with Justin Douglas, a weekly series I created to share encouragement, real-life lessons, and behind-the-scenes truths about life, creativity, and survival in the beauty and entertainment industry. Over time, those messages turned into something deeper, and eventually became my eBook, Soft Glam, Real Talk: A Motivational Manifesto, where I put language to the emotional and mental realities artists and everyday people face while chasing stability and purpose.
As the book took shape, I realized the stories didn’t need to live only on the page. They needed faces. Voices. Presence. That realization led to the creation of the Soft Glam, Real Talk series, a visual extension of the book, where real women share their journeys while sitting in my makeup chair. I narrate their stories as a way of honoring their experiences, turning everyday resilience into documented legacy.
What makes this project meaningful is that it reflects my full evolution, from makeup artist, to motivator, to author, to creator of intellectual property that lives across platforms. The series is now archived on IMDb, giving participants a professional credit and a visible entry point into media spaces they may not have had access to before. It’s no longer just about beauty; it’s about visibility, authorship, & authority. Making room for voices that deserve to be remembered.

Justin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Justin Douglas, a celebrity makeup artist, author, and media creator who uses beauty as a gateway to storytelling, visibility, and empowerment. I’ve spent over a decade working in television, film, and entertainment, creating soft glam looks for major productions, red carpets, and on-camera talent. But what sets my work apart is that I’ve never seen makeup as the final product, it’s the beginning of a conversation.
I got into the beauty industry because I was drawn to transformation, not just visually, but emotionally. Early in my career, I noticed that the makeup chair became a safe space where people opened up about their lives, their fears, their wins, and their survival. Over time, I realized my purpose wasn’t just to make people look good, it was to make them feel seen. That realization led me to create Motivational Mondays with Justin Douglas, a weekly series where I shared real-life lessons about creativity, stability, resilience, and self-belief.
Those messages eventually became my eBook, Soft Glam, Real Talk: A Motivational Manifesto, a written extension of the emotional truths I was seeing every day. And from there, the project evolved again into the Soft Glam, Real Talk series, a visual, narrative-driven platform where real women share their stories while sitting in my makeup chair, with me narrating their journeys. The series is now archived on IMDb, giving participants a professional credit and a new kind of visibility, while allowing me to merge beauty, media, and legacy into one body of work.
Today, my brand lives at the intersection of beauty, motivation, and media. I provide on-set makeup services, editorial and campaign work, content creation, and original storytelling projects. The problem I solve is simple but powerful: I help people feel confident, understood, and visible, whether that’s through a glam look, a piece of content, or a story that finally gives language to what they’ve been carrying.
What I’m most proud of is building something that goes beyond services. I’m creating intellectual property, platforms, and pathways for others while honoring my own evolution as an artist. I want people to know that when they engage with my brand, they’re not just booking makeup or watching content, they’re stepping into a space where softness is strength, stories matter, and beauty has purpose.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots of my career happened after I realized that working nonstop wasn’t the same as building something lasting. I had spent years as a working makeup artist on major sets and productions, constantly moving from gig to gig, always booked but never fully in control of my time, my voice, or my future.
In a season of burnout, I started asking myself what would happen if I stopped chasing visibility and started creating ownership. That’s when I created Motivational Mondays, which later became my eBook Soft Glam, Real Talk: A Motivational Manifesto. Eventually, that project evolved again into a full video series where I now tell real stories of everyday women while doing soft glam makeup.
The pivot wasn’t easy because it meant stepping out from behind the scenes and becoming the face of my own platform, but it changed everything. I went from being hired to build other people’s brands to building my own. That shift taught me that evolution isn’t about starting over; it’s about listening when your work asks for more depth.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation was built through consistency, discretion, and showing up with the same level of excellence whether I was working with a celebrity or an everyday client. I’ve always believed that your name travels faster than your work, so I treated every job like it mattered, because it did.
Over time, that consistency led to trust. Producers called me back. Clients referred me. My work started speaking for me in rooms I wasn’t even in yet. But what truly expanded my reputation was when I began using my platform to tell other people’s stories, not just my own.
Through Soft Glam Real Talk, I’ve had the honor of highlighting real women like Ragan Bridges and Leiha Grills, women whose stories of resilience, ambition, and growth deserve to be seen and documented. Featuring them wasn’t just content; it was purpose. It showed me that my work could be both beautiful and meaningful at the same time.
What ultimately solidified my reputation was understanding that people don’t just hire skill, they hire energy, reliability, and vision. Once I started leading with all three, my work stopped being transactional and started becoming legacy-building.
