We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julie Vera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julie below.
Alright, Julie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
During a period of intense motherhood, Rooted Consulting was founded.
The authentic version, not the edited, highlight-reel version. The one where you change your capacity. You don’t have much time. Your vitality is sacred. All of a sudden, “hustle harder” is no longer appropriate.
My entire perspective on work changed after I became a mother. I was no longer able to defend spending hours on ineffective strategies, dispersed content, or reactive marketing. Every hour I spent apart from my family had to count.
And I noticed something powerful.
Many incredibly talented women, especially mothers launching their own businesses, were in my immediate vicinity. They had to balance nap schedules, client calls, and school.
And I became aware of something strong.
I was surrounded by a lot of extremely talented women, particularly mothers who were starting businesses. They were juggling big visions, school pickups, client calls, and nap schedules. However, their marketing was disorganized. They were instructed to post more. Be more visible. Do more.
However, nobody was inquiring, “Is this aligned?”Can this be sustained? Is this based on your true desires?
I witnessed intelligent mothers becoming exhausted while attempting to keep up with techniques designed for those without toddlers pulling at their sleeves.
I realized that when we slowed down and built from the foundation up – messaging, positioning, offer clarity, long-term strategy … everything became lighter.
Was I solving a problem no one else was addressing? Not entirely.
But I was solving it through a lens that deeply understood motherhood.
I know what it feels like to measure your workday during naps and bedtime. I know what it feels like to want ambition and presence.
I know the emotional weight of building something meaningful while raising tiny humans.
What excited me most was helping moms build businesses that support their life not compete with it.
Rooted Consulting isn’t about scaling at all costs.
It’s about building something strong enough to grow and flexible enough to honor the season you’re in.
Because when your strategy is rooted, you don’t have to hustle for validation.
You grow with intention.
And you get to be both : a present mom and a powerful founder.

Julie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Julie Vera! The founder of Rooted Consulting. I’m a strategist, operations-minded problem solver, and most importantly, a mom who believes businesses should be built with intention, not urgency.
My path into this work wasn’t accidental. I spent years leading operations and strategy inside growing organizations, working across teams to streamline systems, clarify processes, improve customer experience, and turn big ideas into executable plans. I’ve always been drawn to the “behind-the-scenes” of growth and the structure that makes success sustainable.
Over time, I noticed a pattern: many businesses were focused on visibility and expansion, but lacked the foundational clarity to support that growth long term. Messaging felt scattered. Offers were unclear. Systems were reactive. Growth was happening but it was chaotic.
Then motherhood shifted everything for me.
Becoming a mom deeply changed how I viewed time, ambition, and success. I became acutely aware that building something meaningful shouldn’t come at the expense of being present for the life I was building at home. I saw so many ambitious, creative women, especially mothers, trying to “do it all,” following strategies built for hustle culture rather than real life.
That tension is what led me to create Rooted Consulting.
Rooted exists to help women and mom-owned small businesses grow from the roots up—with clarity, balance, and intention. My work blends strategic thinking with real-life alignment. I provide consulting services focused on:
• Brand and messaging clarity
• Offer development and refinement
• Content and growth strategy
• Operational alignment and systems simplification
• Long-term strategic planning
At its core, I help founders move from scattered execution to focused, sustainable growth.
The problems I most often solve sound like this:
“I’m working constantly but not seeing consistent results.”
“My business has grown, but it feels messy behind the scenes.”
“I don’t want to burn out trying to scale.”
“I need a clear plan instead of guessing every month.”
What sets me apart is the integration of strategy and life design. I don’t believe in scaling at all costs. I don’t believe in performative marketing. And I don’t hand clients templated growth plans that ignore their capacity.
Because of my background in operations, I look at the full ecosystem of a business—not just marketing in isolation. We build foundations that support real growth: systems, clarity, positioning, and intentional execution.
But just as importantly, I understand the emotional layer of entrepreneurship—especially for mothers. I know what it feels like to measure your workday around your littles and to want both impact and presence, to crave ambition without chaos.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just client growth metrics—though those matter. It’s when a client tells me:
“My business finally feels clear.”
“I feel confident explaining what I do.”
“This feels sustainable.”
I’m proud that Rooted Consulting stands for depth over noise. For intention over urgency. For building businesses that support the life you actually want to live.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients and followers to know, it’s this:
You don’t need to hustle harder.
You need stronger roots.
When your strategy is aligned with your values, your season of life, and your long-term vision, growth becomes steadier, more confident, and far more sustainable.
And that’s the kind of growth I help women build.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Without a doubt, referrals have been my greatest source of new clients.
The majority of my work comes from previous customers, peer relationships, and other businesswomen who have seen the results of our collaboration.
When someone recommends me, it’s typically because they have experienced the alignment and clarity that our work brings, rather than merely seeing a superficial outcome. They know what it’s like to go from dispersed to strategic, from overwhelmed to rooted. It’s difficult to keep a transformation like that to yourself.
Additionally, I discover that referrals perfectly reflect my values. I’m forming deep connections rather than chasing volume. We can move more quickly and deeply when someone comes through a trusted introduction because there is already alignment and trust established.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The idea that putting in more effort equates to producing more value is among the most important lessons I’ve had to unlearn.
Long hours and unwavering availability were commended early in my career. Being dependable and able to carry the most was the foundation of my identity. And that worked for a while.
However, becoming a mother altered my abilities and viewpoint. I couldn’t function from burnout, and I didn’t want to. I came to see that busyness isn’t strategy and exhaustion isn’t excellence.
Value had to be reinterpreted by me as intentional execution, clarity, and focus. Rooted Consulting was shaped by that change. I now assist women in creating companies that are based on sustainability and alignment rather than just hustle.
