We were lucky to catch up with Julian Llouve recently and have shared our conversation below.
Julian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took immense risks to stay true to my vision as an illustrator, living as a nomad for years and traveling from city to city, never settling for easy compromises. Despite the uncertainty, I remained relentless in pursuing my own style, refusing to sell out to fleeting trends. Every sacrifice, every night spent in unfamiliar places, was a testament to my dedication—choosing artistic integrity over comfort, knowing that true success comes from never giving up on your vision.

Julian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my business because art has always been a part of me—I was a painter in high school, which led me to graphic design, and from there, I fell in love with tattooing and photography. Along the way, I’ve faced challenges with clients who don’t always understand my style or the time it takes to create something original. But through it all, I’m most proud of my consistency—never selling out, never burning out, and always staying true to my vision. Sometimes I take breaks to rediscover myself, but that’s part of the process. To my fans, I want you to know that I’ll always push myself to create original work, and always open to working with anyone.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I often hear people say they feel stuck, wish they could leave everything behind, or are inspired by the freedom others have. I’ve never understood why so many feel they have no choice. To me, comfort can be the greatest obstacle for a creative person—it stifles growth and limits possibilities. True creativity thrives in uncertainty. Letting go and fully embracing life opens the door to experiences that shape both art and identity. In the future, what will stand out more—years spent at a nine-to-five or the moments of exploration, risk, and joy that made life truly meaningful?

How did you build your audience on social media?
For young artists looking to develop their online presence, my advice is to stay focused on your art above all else. If your energy is spent on marketing or chasing validation through likes and trends, it can distract from your true ambitions. Over time, this can turn creativity into routine, making art feel like just another job. Growth—especially in the art world—doesn’t have to be instant. Many successful artists didn’t gain recognition until much later in life, each following their own unique path. The biggest pitfall of social media is comparison, which can destroy originality. Instead of worrying about numbers, focus on creating work that is genuinely unique—because when you build on originality, a strong foundation and following will come naturally.
