We recently connected with Joshua Lakes and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe it takes proper planning and execution and consistency. Motivation comes and goes. We are all human, but with if you’ve a plan, you already know what needs to be done and how so you’ve got to remain consistent even when you’re in motivated. And when motivation comes that’s the perfect time for innovation.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started off as an artist about ten years ago I would write and sing and perform music. It wasn’t long before I delved in to the production side of the entertainment. Within the next 2 years I was producing and engineering my own music while also elevating my skills as keyboardist and guitarist. I spent the next few years building my portfolio as producer and audio engineer all while being a working musician. Today I run my own media company that specializes in the full production of music from composition to writing, recording, engineering, all the way to producing the live performance. I’m proud of the fact that I’m able to provide these services to those who may not know or understand everything it takes to create/produce music. I also feel that my background as an artist helps me connect and relate to other artist because I understand what they’re experiencing.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think quality and integrity will always stand the test of time. For me I never focused on trying to get the most clients or work with as many people as possible. I’ve always just trusted that my work would speak for itself. I’ve always put my best foot forward and I’ve always been transparent with my clients. I give the best version of me when I set out to do work and I make it a point to let the client be heard and bring their vision to life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
So I was self taught at everything that I had learned musically from playing instruments to production. So there was a lot of trial and error and there just a lot of things that I may have learned one way but wasn’t necessarily the best or the only way. Or the right way! So I’ve done a lot of unlearning through the years. And I like to think I am still continuously learning and will be for the rest of my years, but I’ve grown to never be afraid to unlearn. Unlearning is just a part of learning.
