We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshua Adkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshua below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Growing up I was always viewed as overweight to my peers. It felt like my weight always had a hold on me and my mood. As I grew closer to God I learned more about living a healthy lifestyle. Fast forward to adulthood, I was having problems with my weight after playing college football. I began the journey of losing weight again and never looked back. My wife always told me I would make a great personal trainer if I put my mind to it. Once I felt comfortable with my knowledge and appearance. I took the leap of faith and made it into a business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been apart of the fitness industry since I was in high school. I was on the football, wrestling and track team. However starting a business wasn’t until 2022. I have always been a man of faith that uses this to align with fitness. I am a former college football player and I decided to take my knowledge and skills to help others reach theirs. My business is called Fueled By Faith Fitness Academy. Being fueled by faith was a moto I always lived by and I wanted to incorporate that into my business. My mission is to show people that through faith and hard work that all things are possible. Age, finances and circumstances doesn’t matter. As long as you trust in God and believe in yourself than you can overcome any and every obstacle.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was 19 years old I was at my heaviest weight I had ever been in my life. I had to go to a community college due to low grades in high school and was working a part time job. I had the desire to go play football in college but I needed to get in serious shape. I remember praying to God for a way and he brought it right to my doorstep. I was able to lose roughly 40 pounds in 2 months while being enrolled in school full time and working part time. This allowed me to attend the college of my choice, play football, become a captain and starter on the team. I utilized the faith I had established to complete my degree and then get my MBA 3-4 years later.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing I had to unlearn was thinking that just because someone told me no, doesn’t mean God did too. There are goals and dreams in life that God has set aside for us that others won’t understand nor are they meant to. However when God has a plan for you, then it’s up to you to do what it takes to make it happen.
