We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jorge Gonzalez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jorge below.
Hi Jorge, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents instilled two values that have shaped my entire life: the importance of education and the value of persistence.
From an early age, they taught me that education is one of the few assets no one can take away from you. They believed that a strong, reputable education creates opportunities and provides a lasting competitive advantage. They never allowed me to quit or become discouraged by setbacks, poor grades, or challenges. Instead, they emphasized discipline, continuous learning, and resilience. That mindset ultimately led me to pursue degrees in Engineering, Finance, and an MBA.
I was also fortunate to learn perseverance from both of my parents. My mother has worked as an engineer for more than 40 years, demonstrating professionalism, dedication, and commitment to excellence throughout her career. My father, on the other hand, has worn many hats over the years—real estate professional, insurance broker, business owner, handyman, pest control technician, and more. What stood out was not the number of careers he pursued, but his willingness to adapt, learn, and keep moving forward.
Together, they taught me that success is not defined by avoiding obstacles, but by continuously growing, reinventing yourself when necessary, and never giving up. Those lessons have been invaluable throughout my career and continue to guide me today.

Jorge, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have worn many hats throughout my career, including civil engineer, investment analyst, personal banker, and now insurance and financial services professional. My educational background includes degrees in Civil Engineering and Finance, as well as an MBA, and I have spent more than 20 years working in banking, investments, retirement planning, and insurance.
I entered this industry because I saw a need for greater financial education, particularly within the Hispanic community. Too many hardworking families are unaware of the financial tools available to help them move beyond living paycheck-to-paycheck, protect their loved ones, build wealth, and prepare for retirement.
Through Freedom Path Financial, I help individuals, families, and business owners create strategies for financial protection and retirement security using life insurance, annuities, and other financial solutions. What sets me apart is my diverse background across multiple areas of finance, allowing me to focus on solving problems rather than simply offering products.
What I am most proud of is helping people gain confidence in their financial future. My mission is simple: educate first, empower clients to make informed decisions, and help them build a stronger financial foundation for themselves and their families.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building trust through honesty and genuine relationships. In financial services, trust is everything. I believe in being transparent, explaining both the benefits and limitations of any product, and never hiding information from a client. People eventually discover the truth, and long-term success comes from earning trust, not making a quick sale.
I approach every client conversation with the mindset of helping rather than selling. When I focus on understanding a person’s needs instead of closing a transaction, I am able to recommend solutions that truly fit their situation. That approach creates stronger relationships and better outcomes for everyone involved.
I am also a very personal and relationship-oriented professional. I treat clients like family and often share stories from my own experiences that they can relate to. This helps create a comfortable environment where people feel free to discuss their concerns, goals, and challenges. As a result, many of my clients become long-term relationships and often refer their friends and family to me. For me, referrals are the greatest sign that I have earned a client’s confidence and trust.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the defining themes of my career has been the willingness to adapt and continuously learn. Over the years, I have worked as a civil engineer, investment analyst, personal banker, and now an insurance and financial services professional. While these roles may seem very different, they all share a common purpose: helping people solve important problems and improve their future.
My ability to pivot comes from the values my parents instilled in me from a young age. They taught me that education is a lifelong process and that continuous learning creates opportunities. As a result, I have always been committed to expanding my knowledge, earning new degrees, licenses, and professional credentials.
The transition into insurance and financial services was driven by what I observed while working in banking and investments. I met many hardworking individuals and families who were focused on saving and investing but were often unprepared for life’s unexpected events. Whether it was the loss of a family’s primary income earner, a disability, a serious illness, or another financial setback, I saw how quickly years of hard work could be affected without proper planning.
That realization led me to pivot my career toward helping people protect what they have built while preparing for retirement and the uncertainties of life. Looking back, each career change was not a departure from my mission but an evolution of it. Every step has allowed me to better serve others and provide more comprehensive guidance to the families and communities I work with today.
