We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jordan Yates a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative background when I was at least in middle school. But I never pursued until maybe two years ago because I also just did what I thought I was already good at or knew how to do , not what I truly liked or wanted. Don’t get me wrong I still did things I was interested in like football , science , I even played a semester in college for football, but interest really do change with time . Not just change but also come out . I thought since I was pretty good at football , science , and math I should just do that, but it wasn’t fulfilling me . Now when I’m in my craft , it’s something I love doing 100% of the time and I’d do it everyday.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a photographer/videographer from Baltimore, MD but I can move around the DMV as well. I do any kinds of shoots from portraits, graduations, cinematic , short films, highlight reals, brand shoots , athletic, lifestyle, anything a client or another creative needs. I offer a wide variety of things. When you see my work you can find something you like and their isn’t a set style on a what I do , if you need something then you can most definitely find it with me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
A particular goal or mission is say is just that I’d want to do it all. I want to continue my photography, videography and digital creation but I want to push beyond that into bigger industries as well. I want to push into bigger movies , bigger music sets and stages , even get into video game art and directing , all of it . I pushing towards it all .
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I would say do not be afraid to promote yourself. Even that statement can be scary itself but even now I still have to promote myself everyday to just give myself that push on where I want to go, don’t be afraid to fight for yourself .
