We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Jines. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Alright, Jordan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name ‘Jinterros Rum’ holds a very personal significance for me. It’s a blend of my parents’ last names—my father’s being Jines and my mother’s, Terrero. This fusion not only represents the merging of two family legacies but also embodies the spirit of unity and heritage that we strive to infuse into every bottle of rum we produce. Naming the company Jinterros was a way to honor my roots and keep my family’s legacy intertwined with my entrepreneurial journey.
Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jordan Jines, and I am the founder of Jinterros Rum, based in New York. From a young age, I was drawn to entrepreneurship and entertainment, which led me to immerse myself in the stories of business leaders across various eras. This deep interest sparked my curiosity in the spirits industry, particularly after learning about successful liquor brand owners.
My family has a history in the sugarcane industry, which inspired me to delve into the world of rum—a spirit derived directly from sugarcane. With this heritage in mind, I thought, ‘Why not create our own rum brand?’ With the support of my family and numerous meetings with industry professionals, I navigated the complexities of spirit production. Through perseverance and determination, I was able to produce our first batch of rum bottles while still relatively young.
I am immensely proud of starting Jinterros Rum and creating a product that stands as a testament to not giving up, despite the early challenges. What sets us apart is our deep-rooted connection to heritage and the personal story behind our brand’s name—a tribute to my parents by combining their last names, Jines and Terrero. I want our clients and followers to recognize Jinterros Rum not only for its quality but also for its rich backstory and the values it embodies.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was the notion that everything always works out as planned. I realized that progress is often nonlinear, and life can throw unexpected challenges at you. It’s important to recognize when to pause, step back, and reassess. This approach has allowed me to return to my projects with renewed efficiency and perspective, understanding that setbacks are not the end of the road. Moreover, this experience has underscored the importance of mental health care in any industry. Taking care of one’s mental well-being is crucial, as it directly impacts productivity and overall happiness.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele initially relied on word-of-mouth, leveraging personal recommendations to build trust and recognition. As we expanded, we also embraced social media to broaden our reach and directly engaged with bars and restaurants. This hands-on approach has been crucial in forging strong business relationships and establishing Jinterros Rum.
