Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jonah Kleitsch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jonah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I recently released my first album, something I had aspired to for quite some time. The songs on it turned out great and everyone I worked with was an absolute pleasure. In all my work I try and catch this ethereal “thing” for lack of a better word. I am currently in the process of recording more songs for my follow-up project and we have certainly landed in the zone I am always trying to reach in these songs.

Jonah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been on stage practically since I was born, in church I was in the choir as a kid. When I was about thirteen I picked up the electric guitar and was absolutely sucked in. I would practice for hours on end learning songs, I started off with Nirvana songs, first thing I learned was “Come as You Are”. Still a great one. Eventually I started wanting to solo so I learned “Crossroads” by Cream, and I still go back to that from time to time.
I really applied a kind of discipline and work ethic to learning the music behind what I was playing and that was proven to be invaluable in creating my own work. I can give the listener something they may not even consciously recognize but still hits them on a deeper level. All this being said, while I was taught singing as a kid, I have never taken a formal guitar lesson, which is definitely a main contributor to my style of playing. Pure expression.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Your unique vision coming to fruition is a really genuine and profound thing. Anyone can express themselves but how it’s done is the real kicker. To have music out that speaks on my viewpoint, and to find all these other people who feel the same way out in the audience is truly something special that, I feel, vindicates anything hard I may encounter.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Yes, the motivation is something I believe some people may misunderstand. My goal is not fame or attention or anything like that, I am a musician and that is what I do. Anything that comes as a byproduct is something I adapt to, but the sole motivation is the music. That’s why you won’t see me doing tik-tok dances or playing the game to bolster my image or whatever, I let the music speak for me.
