We were lucky to catch up with Joleen Amos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joleen, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
We are happy as business owners; I really wouldn’t trade it for the world. On rough days it has crossed my mind about what it would be like to just have a regular job you know go home at the end of the day and be able to just shut it off once you walk out that door, but then when I really think about it, I’m like nope, we were made for this. Business never stops it keeps going even when we get home, it is our baby, and we are constantly trying to build it and make it better. You know that saying “build your own dreams or someone else will hire you to build theirs” Farrah Gray, I am glad we our building ours. Just like in a regular job you have great days and bad days, so it really seems to weigh the same. The only difference is no one prepares you for running a business and how much work that is, especially the employee part that has been the most challenging for me since I have never had to manage people before. I can’t say I don’t love the challenge that owning a business brings, with so much to balance between running the business, to customers, to employees and so much more I am definitely glad I have my husband and business partner to be there for each other.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We got into this business because we loved marketing and being to help people grow their dreams and businesses. It is important to us to be able to provide that customer service and quality results that bigger businesses seem to lack. Another important aspect to us is transparency, providing up to date results and current work that is being done so our clients never have to wonder what we are doing. Some of the services we provide are social media management, search engine optimization aka SEO, Google ads aka PPC, websites, PR and so much more. The problems that we solve for our clients is strategy for their business and putting a marketing plan in place so they can be found, get business, and grow. My absolute favorite thing is when we are working with a brand-new business and we help them grow to owning multiple offices, employees, clients and more.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Ah the fun of payroll, well we all know our employees depend on getting paid on a regular basis. Well of course everyone has that one payroll error and here is mine. Payroll was due and at the time we were managing our own payroll where I just entered it into a payroll software program and the checks would get issued. As time came I entered the payroll information into the system for the last payroll. Well our system takes about 3-4 to process and then sends over the employees there pay. Well unbeknownst to me I apparently didn’t realize I put the pay date a month later, which means our employees would have gotten paid in a month. Sadly I didn’t even catch it my employee did 4 days later when they were wondering where there paycheck was. Dont worry I immediately expedited it for a nice fee and got everyone paid.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation was built on integrity and doing the right thing for our clients. When we opened No Boundaries Marketing Group in 2019, we came from a corporate marketing background. For years, we saw how profit and greed was put before helping customers grow their business. We knew there had to be a better way. After years of saving and planning, we took the plunge. We vowed that we would ALWAYS put the customer first, no matter the situation.
