We recently connected with Joiya Dai Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joiya Dai thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
I think the main goal in my career is getting with a really good agent. Representation, knowledge of what’s available is very very helpful when it comes to landing work. As you know if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.
So far my mom has done a great job with finding gigs for me. Most were paid and some were an investment. I have gained experience. I have been able to add to my resume, build my confidence and grow in my craft. It all apart of putting in the work and getting established.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I think I wanted to do some type of entertaining every since I could talk and walk. I was always trying to perform something, talking to people and putting on a show. I always had to have a purse and heels on. Lipgloss, my mom purchased so much Lipgloss and that’s how I started my Lipgloss business. My mom said let’s just invest in your own Lipgloss instead, so we did. We have revamped it a few times, but this one is here to stay. It’s “Beauty by Joiya Dai”
As for how I got into fashion modeling was when I was with some family members and my cousin. She saw something in me and my personality.
My cousin introduced my mom to one of her close friends that had a daughter that was modeling, sent me to my first addition at the age of 4 and I’ve been going every since.
I remember for that fashion show, during our rehearsals with the designers, one designer had elegant dresses and I wanted to wear one so bad, but she had all of models already. I was crying, I was so upset and I was thinking i wasn’t pretty enough to wear her dresses. That’s when my mom really talked to me about God and told me that all God has for you is for you and you only. If it’s ment for YOU, you will have on and elegant dress when the time is right. She told me to say it loud and believe in myself and it didn’t matter which outfit I had on, I was beautiful and I could to make anything look fantastic and as elegant as I wanted when I walk down the runway.
The day of the show, one of the models didn’t show up and I got to wear the big yellow most elegant dress ever and from then on I knew God and I knew that whatever is ment for me will be for me and know one could take that away.
So now when things don’t go the way I think they should, I just know that it wasn’t ment for me.
Anything that you do in life is going to require some work and some sacrifices. It’s not easy working towards being successful in any industry. It takes work, but the good thing about is that it can be done and it’s all worth it.
I am very passionate about my modeling and acting, and I love my Lipgloss line. We are adding more products so be sure to follow “Joiya Dai” on all social media platforms and YouTube and every page will come up. Also, “Beauty by Joiya Dai ” on Instagram.
Our Lipgloss is vegan base and we use organic products to make it taste and smell so delicious. Not only does it look good it’s very moisturizing and helps to keep your lips hydrated.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My family is my mission. We are a really close family and I just love my family. We take trips together, go out to eat together and the just because popup gatherings and BBQ ‘s at someone’s house are the best ever.
I want to be able to give to my family and take my grandparents on cruises and to the casinos. My goal or my vision is to purchase a large mansion and move my whole family in so we can always be under one roof.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’m a people person and I enjoy people, meeting people and just having fun. I was homeschooled for two years so I wasn’t around alot of peers. I didn’t realize that children can be so mean to each other. I just started having play dates with other kids besides my best friend Lillian. So I quickly had to learn that some people that you think are your friends really aren’t. I found that out at a play date when so called friends did a recording and said some terrible things about me, but then they wanted to say it was all in just having fun. Well, I wasn’t laughing.
