We were lucky to catch up with Johnny Aragon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Johnny, appreciate you joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Often times, real estate transactions come with unexpected issues but having the right agent(s) in the transactions make all the difference. In one circumstance, I was representing the seller on the sale of a single family home in Central Los Angeles that received plenty of interest. We ended up in multiple offers and found the right buyer for it. During escrow, my in-house title company found some discrepancies in the title search of the property that weren’t property cleared out, even though the seller had already addressed the issues years prior. At that moment, I thought the property would be delayed in closing due to these issues but asked my in-house escrow and title company on how we can resolve the issue without causing unnecessary delays. I knew there was a solution to it, given that my escrow and title officers have plenty of years of experience. Both said the seller had to provide original documentation stating the discrepancies were corrected. They would only need the documentation to deliver the title free and clear to the buyer. Upon speaking to my seller, he had the original documents, which he provided to me and I was able to deliver the documentation that same day. The proactivity of escrow, title and I prevented a possible delay, which I’m always grateful for. I continue teaming up with them on my listing transactions and we always close the deals with minimum disruptions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Prior to getting started in real estate, I served in the U.S. Navy out of high school for 5 years. When I separated from the U.S. Navy, I enrolled at California State University Los Angeles and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Finance. After undergrad, I was hired at a small school in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles,
While working at the school, I was encouraged by our real estate professor to take the real estate courses offered and study for the CA real estate license. He thought I had the personality and grit to be a great real estate professional, so I decided to pursue it. Upon earning my real estate license, I started the MBA program at the University of Southern California (FIGHT ON!).
During my first year in the program, I left the school and was hired by my current office manager, Lori Ramirez, at Coldwell Banker Realty in Pasadena, CA. I worked as a staff for the office, learning listing contracts, marketing, admin tools, lease documentation and the purchase contract. Upon graduating from USC, I transitioned to real estate sales. I felt equipped to handle the real estate business, given the skills I learned in the military, the universities I studied at and my staff role with Coldwell Banker Realty.
I am a full-service real estate professional that offers buyer’s consultations, seller’s consultations and lease consultations. I provide guidance on the purchase of your home, the sale of your home and leasing of your home. I explain how the process works from A to Z and handle the paperwork and transaction process. I listen to your needs and make an action plan accordingly. I take a hands-on approach with all of my clients and it’s been the key to my success thus far.
What sets me apart is that I don’t run away from any problems that come up during a real estate transaction, I tackle them head on, even if it’s something that I’ve never seen before. The military taught me to never run away from the problem, but to figure a solution as there is always one. I believe in not resting until the job gets done.
My brand consists of clear communication, trustworthiness, honesty, and the Navy core values: Honor, Courage and Commitment. I earned the Military Relocation Professional designation from the National Association of REALTORS® and the Luxury Property Specialist designation through the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury program.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve always had a Facebook and Instagram account, where I am connected with family and friends. Throughout the past decade, I’ve expanded my online presence through LinkedIn, Tiktok, X (formerly Twitter), Threads and YouTube. As I’ve been progressing in my real estate career, I’ve posted different content throughout all of my social media channels, thus attracting new followers. My posts ranges from market statistics, my past solds, my current listings, any fun activities I am partaking in, pictures of my pet parrots, and videos of places I’m visiting.
Most important advice is to be authentic when you’re posting online. I always strive to be authentic because I believe that it is a reflection of who I am in real life. I always keep all of my social media activity positive and full of hope and inspiration. I love supporting what my peers are doing by liking and commenting on their content. I’d also recommend that you comment and re-share your friend’s content, as it can open more doors than you would think possible.
