We recently connected with John John Tarrayo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi John John, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking risks is very important and it is how I approach life. We have to live life to the fullest. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take. I am an artist and a freelancer. Especially in this industry it is very competitive and you can get yourself lost in this business. Stay true to who you are, believe in yourself and trust the gift that is given to you. I definitely have had my insecurities and my doubts but once I started training under the right educators and mentors and surrounded myself with good energy and good people, my mindset changed. I didn’t compete with anyone else but myself and the goal was to just get better every day, inspire and motivate people, and make them smile. It is such a warm feeling to trust myself because it feels so free.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started dancing when I was 13 years old. My inspiration was dance movies, dance shows, and breakdancers in Time Square. Once I started dancing and had this feeling of happiness and liberation, I realized this is something that I want to do, I need to do, and what I was born to do. I became a strong student and learned as much as I can as a business and more importantly the culture. I will never stop being a student, I would continue learning, and I will continue to inspire and motivate the world.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of my biggest inspirations that made me want to dance is the show “So You Think You Can Dance.” I have auditioned for that show 6x. I got closer and closer every time but did not past top 30. Of course, I was heartbroken and devasted, but I did not give up. That is an experience I will not forget and because I had that experience. even though I didn’t make it to top 20, I met some amazing dancers who are now my friends and great connections that got me some pretty big jobs. Never give up and always keep pushing forward.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to teach all over the world, inspire as much as I can, and give my students, my dancers, my class a good experience, share good energy, and keep building the community.
