We recently connected with Jj Yosh and have shared our conversation below.
JJ, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What do I think it takes to be successful?
Success, to me, is about resilience, adaptability, and staying connected to your core values. It’s not just about hitting milestones—it’s about the journey, learning from every stumble, and celebrating small wins along the way.
One thing I’ve learned is that success thrives on curiosity. The ability to keep asking questions, trying new things, and pushing boundaries is what keeps the flame alive. Of course, consistency and hard work are essential, but passion and a sense of wonder keep you moving forward when things get tough.
Anecdote:
There was a time early in my career when I was trying to grow my presence as an outdoor content creator. I remember filming a camping trip with Simon, my adventure cat, in freezing temperatures. We were miles away from any comfort zone—literally and figuratively. The lighting wasn’t great, the gear didn’t always cooperate, and at one point, I dropped my camera in the snow.
Instead of letting frustration take over, I adapted. I focused on the connection Simon and I had with nature, leaning into candid, imperfect moments. That video ended up being one of my most authentic and loved pieces of content. It taught me that success isn’t about everything being perfect—it’s about showing up, improvising, and letting your passion shine through.
The Lesson:
Success isn’t a straight path; it’s a winding trail full of surprises. What sets successful people apart is their ability to embrace challenges as part of the process, staying curious and open to growth. And maybe, just maybe, it’s about sharing the adventure with someone (or some cat) who inspires you to keep going. 🐾🌟

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Absolutely! One story that truly illustrates resilience in my journey revolves around a backpacking adventure Simon and I embarked on in the rugged Colorado wilderness. It was one of those trips where everything seemed to go wrong, but looking back, it taught me the value of perseverance and adaptability.
We had planned a multi-day trek to a remote alpine lake, where I hoped to capture stunning drone footage for a campaign. The first day started off beautifully—clear skies, breathtaking vistas, and Simon perched on my backpack, looking like the king of the mountains. But by the time we reached the trail’s midpoint, the weather had taken a sudden turn. A surprise snowstorm rolled in, dropping temperatures drastically and covering the trail in a thick blanket of snow.
I remember feeling a pang of panic—our gear was suitable for cooler temperatures, but not an unexpected storm. The trail markers were buried, and the wind was howling so fiercely that it became difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. Simon, ever the trooper, remained calm, which helped me stay focused.
I decided to set up camp early and wait out the storm. As I huddled in my tent, with Simon curled up beside me, I started to doubt my decision to take this trip. It wasn’t just the cold; it was the uncertainty of how or when we’d make it back to safety. The isolation and harsh conditions felt overwhelming.
But then I thought about why I do what I do—why I share these adventures and push myself to the limits. It’s because I believe in showing others that we are stronger than we think and that even in the toughest situations, there’s beauty and growth to be found. I reminded myself that resilience isn’t just about enduring—it’s about adapting and making smart choices.
The next morning, the storm had calmed, leaving a pristine, snow-covered landscape. I carefully navigated back to the main trail, using GPS and a map, and captured some of the most breathtaking footage I’ve ever shot. That moment of standing at the frozen lake, with the sun glinting off the snow, made all the struggle worth it.
What I took away from that experience was more than just great content—it was a renewed understanding of resilience. Challenges will come, sometimes when you least expect them, but if you trust yourself, stay calm, and keep moving forward, you can overcome them. And sometimes, the reward on the other side is more incredible than you could have imagined.
Simon, of course, handled it all like the adventure pro he is. His unwavering calmness reminded me to stay present and trust the journey, no matter how daunting it may seem.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the most significant pivots in my life came when I transitioned from being an outdoor adventurer to a full-time content creator and storyteller. It wasn’t a straightforward decision—it was a journey filled with unexpected challenges, opportunities, and self-discovery.
For years, I had been living my passion for adventure, exploring the wild, and connecting with nature. While I loved the experiences, I was financially struggling to sustain that lifestyle. I had been capturing photos and videos of my journeys purely out of passion, but I never thought they could become a career.
The pivot began unexpectedly when I started sharing more of my content online. One day, I posted a video of Simon, my adventure cat, riding on my backpack as we trekked through the wilderness. The video went viral. Suddenly, people were fascinated not just with my outdoor adventures, but with this unique bond I had with Simon. That moment opened my eyes to the potential of using storytelling to connect with an audience and inspire them.
It wasn’t easy at first. I had to learn the nuances of creating engaging content, building a brand, and navigating the world of social media and influencer marketing. I also faced skepticism from people who didn’t understand why a guy and his cat would become the centerpiece of adventure storytelling. But I believed in the value of sharing something authentic and relatable—adventures that anyone could undertake and the joy of finding companionship in the unexpected.
The real challenge came in making it sustainable. I had to shift from seeing content as a hobby to treating it like a business. This meant investing in equipment, learning video editing, building partnerships with brands, and understanding what my audience wanted to see.
One of the toughest pivots during this time was realizing that I needed to diversify my content. While Simon’s adventures were a huge hit, I realized that my audience was also interested in my personal journey—my fitness routines, my thoughts on sustainable living, and even the creative ways I’ve built my home. I leaned into that, expanding my storytelling to include a broader view of my life and values.
This pivot paid off in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It allowed me to build a community of followers who not only love Simon’s antics but are inspired by the lifestyle I promote—one of adventure, creativity, and a deep connection to the natural world. It also opened doors to incredible opportunities, from collaborating with global brands to working on impactful campaigns that align with my values.
Looking back, I’ve realized that pivots are not about abandoning your path—they’re about evolving it. By embracing change and leaning into what felt authentic, I turned what could have been a fleeting moment of internet fame into a meaningful career that continues to inspire others to “Get Out There” and explore what’s possible.
