We recently connected with Jimmie Drummond and have shared our conversation below.
Jimmie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At Drummond Projects, we practice architecture with a cross-disciplinary approach. We’re different from other architecture firms because we take projects from start to finish inhouse. Our more hands on, collaborative approach allows us to be there for every step, from planning, to building, to finishing touches like lighting and interior design. This allows the client a degree of customization and care that is unparalleled in the industry.
Jimmie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Drummond Projects is a full-service architecture and design studio. We bring an energetic mix of civic- mindedness and resourceful vigor to the design process. Offering architectural and engineering services within the residential, cultural, commercial, hospitality, multi-housing, and public-art sector. Drummond Projects was founded by architect and lighting designer, Jimmie Drummond. Jimmie is currently an adjunct professor at Howard University and has previously taught at NYIT and MICA. He is a visiting juror and lecturer at the University of Maryland and Parsons. He approaches the practice of architecture through the lens of his foundational knowledge and background in the arts. He believes the built environment has a direct connection to many aspects of our living experience.
“Architecture impacts everything, from our interconnected physiology, to the well-being of our homes, and even our productivity levels in the workplace. Well designed spaces inspire us to connect, create, learn, and enjoy desired experiences.”
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Drummond Projects is very hands on with our clients and projects. We see through every part of the project, from the planning through to the execution of construction all the way to final touches like lighting and interior design. As a result, our process is very collaborative in nature. Clients can see and feel the care we put into every step of the project, which leads to return clients, like the Burns Brothers who initially hired us for an office space and now have invited us to return to work with them on another upcoming project.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I believe that the most rewarding experience one can have as a creative is the ability to take someone’s dreams and make it a reality. Especially in architecture, being able to make someone’s dream restaurant, or office space, or even dream home come to life and help them by meeting their expectations is truly a one of a kind experience.
