We recently connected with Jillian Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jillian, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
When it comes to my business, I wish I could have started it sooner but realistically I couldn’t have started my business at a more than perfect time. I got into balloon design to contribute to my younger brother’s graduation party. My first garland was horrible, the balloons were all different sizes and see-through but my family was so proud of the work I did. I would love to have gotten into my craft earlier so I could have more experience under my belt but I feel as though the timing was impeccable. Being in grad school, running a business, and working full-time taught me time management and proper scheduling. If there was something I could change about my experience, I would have figured out my pricing earlier. I feel like as a balloon artists we oftentimes sell ourselves short to gain more clients, thinking we aren’t worth the price but we are. I wish I understood that more when I started and didn’t sell myself short as much.

Jillian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Name is Jillian, I am a 27-year-old Balloon Artist based in Savannah, GA. I got into this craft by doing a favor for my family and I just became obsessed with this art form. I make one-of-a-kind balloon arrangements for all kinds of events; birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, etc. I can help my clients come up with a concept for their events, I love making digital makeup and assisting my clients with bringing their ideas to life. I feel like what sets me apart from others is my approach and my style of balloon arranging. I feel like every artist has their signature look and style and I feel like my arrangements have a unique, quality look to them.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by always posting content and promoting myself. Instagram promotion and promoting my business page on my personal page have been influential as well. I am a part of a generation that has always had the internet and use it to our advantage, so using hashtags, posting in Facebook groups and posting my business cards wherever I go.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been social media, my new clients find me on either Instagram or Facebook. if you use those platforms right they can make you a lot of clientele.
