We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jewel Lavenskii a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jewel , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on is my upcoming self-titled album “Jewel.” This album depicts the life of me, a 22-year-old still figuring out love and life. Throughout the ups and downs and the losses we take in life, the only thing that matters is love. We take a journey through my life, the happiness, and the fun of it all with tracks like ”Can I Get Your Number,” “Be Honest (Can You Just), “I’ve Been Thinking,” “Almost Is Never Enough,” and “Heaven.” And we also take a journey through the heartbreak, pain, confusion, and anger with tracks like “Tell Me,” “Wasteless, “Your Playing With My Heart,” “I Was In Love (Was It Just Me),” and “You Had Me Like (Whoa).” This album shows the versatility and vulnerability, and this is being shown throughout this entire album. As you know, Jewel Lavenskii is known for boastful animated flows and sexually empowering lyrics, but with this album I wanted to be a little more soft and vulnerable; I want to let my supporters take a step inside my life.”. When it comes to writing an empowering song, a catchy pop hook, or a fun breakup song, it just flows so easily for me. I think I found my sound; this album definitely represents my sound. I’m not a one-genre artist, so I will always be experimenting with new sounds, but this is my sound.”. This album captures that love isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean stop trying to find it; whether that love is your dreams, a person, or a thing, don’t ever give up on that love.

Jewel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into music very young; I discovered I can sing at a very young age. After watching Sisters Act with my mom, I remember shocking her when I sang, “If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention.” She was so amazed, she made me sing it that whole day. After that day, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up: I wanted to be a singer. Being a singer comes with a lot of discipline, hard work, and intellect. You have to be able to be disciplined, you have to be teachable, and you have to have that passion for what you do because the music industry is changing every day and nothing truly ever stays the same, so you have to adapt to whatever change is necessary. Listening to my music will always give you that feel-good vibe. I don’t ever want to be the reason my supporters are depressed; I want to make them feel happy and loved, and I want them to know that it’s better to put yourself out there and try, then to just sit and wonder if, even if you get your heart shattered so many times, keep at it, whether it’s your dreams, love, spirituality, or whatever means a lot to you, just keep at it. I’ve been working really hard independently; taking online dance lessons, online vocal coaching, and songwriting is just something that I love doing; writing lyrics to an album is something I’m very proud of. I know that I’m not where I want to be at in my career right now but I won’t ever just give up.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Nowadays all an artist needs to get noticed is a repost from a big artist like Taylor swift or Nicki Minaj to start off their career, if some of us underground artists had the resources to reach fans on that altitude, we would could be the next big thing, if artists all came together as a society to help other artists, some many new artists would be thriving.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding part of being an artist is putting your music out there, not knowing how the world is going to respond to it, and you start to receive so much love for your music. It feels amazing, as well as being on stage singing/dancing for your supporters, which is definitely another peak of being an artist.
