We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Doll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica , appreciate you joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Since high school, my dream has been to pursue a career as a professional dancer. After being exposed to little moments and bits of the industry I knew that this was the path I wanted to follow. I worked extremely hard as a young adult to strengthen my skillset in numerous styles, gain knowledge and acquire everything necessary in order to move to the states to go after the big league jobs. Originally from a small town in Canada- dance opportunities were limited. After 10 yrs of pursuing and achieving many dreams such as dancing in several tv/film productions and touring the world performing in front of thousands with A-list artists, I was ready to expand into additional areas of the industry. I decided to branch into teaching dance as a movement coach and instructor. This idea became more prominent during the pandemic where I started developing my branding, socials and network.
Jessica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
With over a decade of experience in the dance industry across Canada and the USA, I travel worldwide as a professional dancer, movement coach, and dance instructor. Currently based in California, where I dance full-time, I also hold a full-time teaching position at the prestigious Millennium Dance Complex in Orange County. Apart from performing in professional productions and teaching, I provide movement coaching for up-and-coming artists pursing a career in the music industry. This newfound passion emerged after my move to Los Angeles. In these sessions, I guide emerging artists on dancing with their microphone, building stage confidence, and enhancing their overall performance. My objective is to ensure that all my clients and students leave feeling empowered, accomplished, and valued in a positive and secure environment.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I firmly believe that your reputation holds significant value in any industry. Establishing trust and reliability with others is priceless! Creating an authentic, positive and genuine experience is always top priority for me. From my upbringing and guidance from mentors, I’ve learned the importance of exceeding expectations when working with both new and existing clients. Going the extra mile by giving that additional 10% can create unforgettable moments and experiences.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the progress and development of my students and clients. I love being able to make small positive impacts in people’s lives. Seeing someone embrace their inner light and shine in a way they previously found challenging is truly so special.
