We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jerri Reid. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jerri below.
Jerri, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Before Naked Buttah, I sold makeup and genuinely enjoyed helping people feel confident. Later, I attended medical school and learned more about the skin, including how certain products and ingredients can impact the skin barrier over time. That experience changed my perspective. I realized I no longer wanted to focus on covering the skin. Instead, I wanted to focus on caring for it. That shift inspired me to create Naked Buttah, a brand centered around nourishing the skin with simple, intentional products. My goal was to create a natural solution that helps people feel confident in their skin without feeling like they need to hide behind makeup.

Jerri, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jerri, and I am the founder and CEO of Naked Buttah, a skincare brand built around the belief that healthy skin is the foundation of confidence. Before entering the skincare industry, I spent time in the beauty space selling makeup. While I enjoyed helping people feel beautiful, my perspective changed after attending medical school and learning more about the skin and the importance of maintaining a healthy skin barrier. I became increasingly interested in what was happening beneath the makeup and how proper skincare could help people feel confident in their natural skin.
That experience inspired me to create Naked Buttah. I wanted to build a brand that focused on nourishing and supporting the skin rather than simply covering it. Our products are designed to help people create simple, intentional skincare rituals that prioritize hydration, consistency, and overall skin health.
Naked Buttah offers skincare essentials including cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, masks, and self-care tools that encourage people to slow down and take care of themselves. Our mission is not to promote perfection. We believe real skin has texture, pores, and imperfections, and that beauty begins with caring for the skin you are in.
What sets Naked Buttah apart is our commitment to simplicity and authenticity. We are not chasing unrealistic beauty standards. We are creating products and experiences that help people feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. We want our customers to understand that skincare is not about fixing themselves. It is about honoring themselves.
As a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and lifelong learner, I am most proud of building a brand that reflects my values. Naked Buttah is more than skincare. It is a reminder that confidence starts when we stop hiding and start embracing who we are. My hope is that every person who experiences the brand feels empowered to show up as their most natural, confident self.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was what I believed healthy skin was supposed to look like. For years, I thought good skin meant flawless skin. No pores, no texture, no scars, no discoloration. Like many people, I was influenced by beauty standards that were often created by filters, editing, makeup, and unrealistic expectations.
As I learned more about skincare and the science behind the skin barrier, I realized that real skin is supposed to have texture. Real skin has pores. Real skin tells a story through scars, freckles, and imperfections. I had to unlearn the idea that every mark needed to be corrected or hidden.
The turning point for me was understanding that healthy skin and perfect skin are not the same thing. Filters and social media have blurred that line for so many people, including myself. Once I accepted that, my entire perspective changed. Instead of focusing on covering the skin, I became passionate about caring for it.
That lesson ultimately became the foundation of Naked Buttah. We want people to embrace healthy, nourished skin rather than chase an unrealistic version of perfection that doesn’t actually exist.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that reflects my resilience is the journey of building Naked Buttah. There were so many hiccups along the way, from packaging issues to shipping delays. And I’m not talking about a few weeks or even a month. Some delays stretched for more than half a year.
There were moments when things didn’t go according to plan, but giving up was never an option. The way my faith is set up, I truly believe God placed this business in my heart for a reason. Every setback became a test of patience, perseverance, and trust. No matter what obstacle came my way, I remained determined to bring Naked Buttah to life.
That experience taught me that entrepreneurship isn’t just about having a great idea. It’s about continuing to move forward when things are difficult, uncertain, and out of your control. Looking back, I’m grateful for every challenge because they helped strengthen both me and the brand.
Today, I am proud to say that Naked Buttah is preparing to launch soon. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth every lesson along the way.
