Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jermaine Anglin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jermaine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
When i started BLAKPRO in 2006 I know i wanted to be a production powerhouse producing music videos, commercials, & Content. This year actually marks our 20th year anniversary. I knew little when i started my production company just the idea and vision to take it somewhere. My first project that i got to work on a few week after i started my company was Rick Ross “Everyday I’m Hustling” in 2006. I started as a Production Assistant/Director Assistant to a Director by the name of Dayo Harewood who was working alongside the great Gil Green from 305 Films. So i was able to get hands on schooling about the game from early in my career which helped me to grow and scale my company. I learned how to do a good production from start to finish, how to deal with clients, and what to expect on a film set which was pivotal in my career. Having this opportunity working with 305 Films Dayo Harewood & Gil Green allowed me to learn the music video industry. Having a mentor was key for me i was able to go right to the source and get the information i needed. Building the resources was key and i knew networking was very important so i would always ask a lot of questions. It was important for me to learn what everyone did on a film set, what they were paid, and what push everyone to get the best out of your crew. From being on these film sets working with artists like; Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, LiL Wayne, Birdman, Young Jeezy, & Trick Daddy i was able to leverage that on a smaller scale getting independent artist and up and coming artist having interest in working with me to put together there music videos. Then i met my partners Young Chang (Director) and Blake Aubrey (Art Director) who passed away in 2017 RIP. We decided to form a pack and work on projects together myself producing, Young directing, and Blake doing the Art for the projects. We were able to accomplish a lot together building our reels and growing in the industry. I was able to execute at a high level with my resources and work ethic no one would outwork me. Learning the business side and the creative side is the key to long jeverdy some people don’t know how to do both which gives me an advantage. Now i am overseeing projects at Blackground Records, Vulture Love Records, and still freelancing in the industry. Creating a legacy has always been at the top of my agenda so starting my nonprofit organization was an important part of the journey. So i created The I AM SOMEBODY FOUNDATION INC in 2012, a 501c3 non profit organization that is geared towards the Arts (Film & Podcast). We offer After-school programs that students participates in teaching them about the film & Podcast industry. Giving them an outlet to express themselves creatively. We are also actively involved in the community assisting with Food Drives, Back to School events, Thanksgiving Turkey Drives, Christmas Toy Drives. Being the change i want to see in my community!
Jermaine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, The goal and mission that is driving my journey is my kids and my legacy. I want to be able to create something my Kids can be proud of and also benefit from in the future. My legacy creating opportunities for the youth that are coming behind me to help use my resources and knowledge to pour into them. Build my non profit organization to multiple states and even bringing back home to Jamaica so i can help the people there also.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
For me it wasn’t about the resources at first it was how to really utilize them. Finding the confidence to ask for help but it wasnt until i realize i had to put all of that to the side and work my resources was when everything changed for me.
