We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Murphy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I am a board-certified autonomous Family Nurse Practitioner in Florida. With over 17 years of experience as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) and over 25 years of Nursing, I have become increasingly aggravated with the traditional medicine treatment constraints, as well as limitations set by health insurance companies. I do not believe that “the system” is built to allow for ACTUAL helpful and appropriate patient care. I founded this company in an effort to take the knowledge that I have obtained through my extensive training and experience to provide care to my patients the way that they deserve. I believe that our health is the most important investment that we can make in our lives, and I have a true passion for educating and empowering others to make sure their most important investment is protected. I pride myself in being an active listener, a thorough educator, and a genuinely caring provider. I have always felt that my patients have become a part of my family and I ensure that they are always treated as such. I started Elite Longevity following a passion of wanting to change lives for the better. Following some entrepreneurial guidance and support, I have been able to grow a practice. I think the biggest challenge to owning a business is understanding the finance operations side. I would encourage good book keeping and know your expenses.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As previously stated, I am a autonomous board certified nurse practitioner with over 25 years experience in the medical field and started Elite Longevity in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL to focus on a concierge primary care service as it incorporates functional medicine, hormone therapy, and weight loss. We provide integrative medicine and hormone replacement therapy for men and women. This line of medicine looks at the person holistically and attempts to treat them from a foundational and root-cause approach. It’s an extremely meaningful way of practicing medicine and healthcare. Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve optimal health and longevity.
At Elite Longevity, we are deeply connected with our patients. We want to know about you in a way in which we can truly help you heal. We don’t just want our patients to be “normal”, as we always say. We want them to be optimal. By operating outside of insurance, we can get back to real patient centered care, meaning we don’t have busy waiting rooms, and short appointments. We get to treat you the way you deserve to be treated, and get to the root of your problems. Our patients usually enter our clinic feeling frustrated, scared, and disappointed, and leave feeling hopeful, educated, and confident.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I had to go back and choose a profession, I would choose nursing all over again. I love the ability of the profession to allow you to find your passion. I always knew I would be in nursing following my experience as a candy-striper volunteer as a teen at what is now Beaches Baptist.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Throughout my career, I have treated patients with chronic disease, educated students, given lectures and presentations about chronic disease management. Now, I have pivoted (following some additional education) and focus on integrative care and speak on the prevention of chronic disease that has an emphasis on hormone optimization.
