We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Ball. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
Since I can remember, I’ve always been someone who was juggling multiple things at once, working two jobs, playing sports, and continuing my education in some form. Each job along the way taught me something different, from logistics and teamwork to problem solving under pressure. Looking back, all of those experiences prepared me to be the “go-to” person on wedding and event days when the unexpected happens. In this industry there are always “what if” moments, and those years of diverse experience gave me the confidence and skills to handle them calmly. It also means my network runs deep and wide, allowing me to pull together the right people and resources to create truly incredible experiences for my clients.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Jennifer Ball, owner of Knot Your Average Events & Travel based in Burlington/Greensboro, North Carolina. I’ve spent more than 27 years in the wedding and event industry and the last 14 years specializing in travel planning, particularly destination weddings and Caribbean celebrations. My passion is helping couples create celebrations that truly reflect their story, because I believe weddings should be more than a cookie cutter event. They should be an experience. Through my company, I help couples plan both stateside and destination weddings, guiding them through everything from travel logistics and resort selection to guest experience and event design.
What sets me apart is the depth of experience and the network I’ve built over the years. My background in event logistics taught me how to anticipate challenges, solve problems quickly, and ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes so couples can simply enjoy their day. I’m proud to be a member of the International Association of Destination Wedding Professionals, 1 of 54 Master Wedding Planners in the world through the Association of Bridal Consultants and a Platinum Sandals Travel Advisor and one of the top 100 TAs with Sandals & Beaches Resorts as a Chairman Royal Club Elite Advisor, which allows me to offer trusted partnerships and opportunities for my clients. Most of all, I’m proud of the relationships I build with my clients and the unforgettable experiences we create together.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation has been built through consistency, experience, and genuine relationships. After more than 27 years in the wedding and event industry, people know that when they work with me they’re getting someone who understands both the creative vision and the behind the scenes logistics that make an event truly successful. I’ve always taken pride in being the calm, reliable “go to” person who can anticipate challenges, solve problems quickly, and make sure everything runs smoothly so my clients can simply enjoy their celebration.
I’ve also focused heavily on building strong relationships within the industry and with my clients. My network runs deep and wide, and that allows me to connect couples with the right vendors, venues, and travel experiences to create something truly special. Many of my clients come through referrals and word of mouth, which I consider one of the greatest compliments. When people trust you enough to recommend you to their friends and family, that’s how a lasting reputation is built.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One moment that really reflects my resilience was navigating the constant shifts our industry experienced over the past several years, when weddings and travel plans were changing almost daily. Couples who had spent months or years dreaming about their wedding suddenly had to postpone, relocate, or completely redesign their plans. Instead of stepping back, I leaned in even more, helping my clients pivot, rework timelines, adjust guest lists, and find new ways to still celebrate their love. It meant long days, constant communication, and a lot of creative problem solving, but seeing those couples still get their moment made it all worth it.
That time reminded me why resilience matters so much in this industry. Weddings and travel are emotional investments for people, and my role is to stay steady when things feel uncertain. My years of experience taught me how to adapt quickly, stay calm under pressure, and continue finding solutions. In the end, many of those clients didn’t just get their celebration, they gained an even more meaningful experience, and many of them remain some of my strongest advocates today.
