Alright, Jeff thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We know first hand that having plants inside and out can improve our health and benefit the environment. Plants purify our air, beautify our living spaces, and provide a general sense of healing and well-being. Although not everyone has the luxury of a front or backyard, almost everyone does have a shelf, windowsill, or office desk that can support a house plant. Our goal with instant plant food™ is to keep our soil-dwelling companions healthy and well-fed and ultimately help people have a positive plant experience.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started working full-time with plants in 2008 right out of school. My partner Ari and I were taking out lawns and installing organic vegetable gardens. Fast forward 10 years and our company www.revolutionlandscape.com evolved into a comprehensive landscape design / build company with a focus on environmental sustainability. www.instantplantfood.com came into play when we realized we could help folks connect with nature with indoor houseplants too!!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Moving from the outdoor plant specialist to indoor houseplant aficionado was a transition that happened around the time the COVID-19 pandemic started. All of the sudden MANY people needed more green as a part of their “doing everything from home” lives.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
We successfully funded several of our eco-related initiatives with a Kickstarter Campaign. These funds allowed us to certify PETA Vegan & Cruelty Free, go carbon neutral through our partnership with We Are Neutral, and jumpstart our 1% for the Planet program where we donate 1% of all sales to non-profits that help the earth.
