We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeanne Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeanne below.
Alright, Jeanne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project that I have worked on is the 30 minute documentary we produced titled, “She Wore Silver Wings”. This true story is based on the life of Jean Landis as a Womens Airforce Service Pilot during WWII. She also happens to be the great-aunt of my husband/business partner, Devin Scott. Jean recently passed at age 104. There were 1820 women who qualified and passed the WASP course and Jean was #16 of those sill alive in December. Jean was a remarkable woman in many ways. Not only did she ferry combat planes during WWII, she was an amazing professor of Physical Education, an artist and a kind, and intelligent person. We started this project when she was in her late 80’s because she took a ride on a modified 2-seater P51 Mustang at Chuck Hall Aviation in Ramona, CA (the plane that was her favorite during her WASP career) and we documented the event. After seeing how it brought back so many wonderful memories we decided to complete the story. She Wore Silver Wings has been in several Film Festivals (in many, winning audience favorite and best short) and Jean would travel with us and speak after the screenings. We got to know Jean extremely well over the course of the project and always felt so privileged to know her and tell her story.

Jeanne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the Film and Video Production industry since I left the Army in 1980. I have always wanted to be in this industry in some capacity. I thought that I would be a copywriter for an ad agency and/or do voice overs. I did end up doing those jobs along with many other positions I’ve held. I wear a lot of hats at our production company, American Dream Cinema. (30 years strong in San Diego, CA!) Because it is difficult to get into this business (especially in San Diego) when I moved here, I volunteered for every opportunity I could find in film and video production. Because I am a hard worker, reliable and easy to get along with, I soon started getting paid to work. The rest is kind of history- you gravitate towards the things you like to do. I’ve worked on unscripted, scripted, live and live to tape projects, in many different capacities; writer, producer, assistant director, continuity, casting, location manager, crewing, set design etc. I like it all!
I love true stories that offer information which may help others. I like working on commercials because they are short projects and you get to see them on the air or social media right away. I also like to write and produce how-to videos, it’s like writing a speech or putting together a puzzle that best teaches someone how to do it. American Dream Cinema is known for providing creative professional services that are reasonably priced and on time and budget.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I was working as a staff production manager in San Diego at a video and film production company. A new client called to book some editing time. He said he only needed 4 hours but when he explained his project, I had dealt with other clients who have had similar projects and I argued that he would need more time and I would have to extend our staff editor’s hours and put him on over time. He insisted that wouldn’t happen. So I said, OK but was very leary. Well, he ended up editing exactly as he said and I was impressed! After that we got to know each other and then decided to put our talents (and hands in marriage) together I joined his Company, American Dream Cinema, and in 2012 we incorporated.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We have always kept down our overhead, yet still provide top notch service. We try to be open with everything that the project will entail and make sure it is all known upfront. We will jump through hoops to make sure projects are delivered on time and better than expected.
