Jazz the CEO, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Going from idea to execution was easy once I was reminded that I already had everything I needed! I started out with the inner love for investigation, asking questions, being naturally nosey lol and the want to help others. So the first lane of the business was Private investigations which we still do to this day. I had to first obtain my Private detective license, once I did that, I studied the game and all it’s parts. Which included how to make money as a P.I. , best practices on how to close cases and so on. I then went and made 100 copies of my reume and went out and visited, called, and emailed every law firm in my area and started getting clients. I call that the 3 touch method shhh , don’t tell anyone I told you that. You have to be willing to put in the time and effort in building your business.
Then something I never experencied before happen A global pandemic right when my business was getting started. My part time job shut down, the courts, the law offices were closed , and everything started to be virtual and no contact. We took a big hit. I think I learned a major lesson in “pivoting” being adaptable, and having the ability to follow and understand industry trends can be what makes or breaks your company. During this crazy time the firearm training arm of After Hourz was born.The world was in the middle of political uproar, economical, and racial high tension and so many people wanted to learn self defense and I stepped up to the plate. Before I could get my own credentials I partnered with somone who already had his and we worked together until I became a NRA instructor myself. Partnerships and collaborations are one of the biggest ways you can go from idea to execution in a instance!
The third arm of After Hourz security which is the security arm was a natural progression of a company like mine, it is what my background and exprience is in. I believe that everyone deserves to be protected and needs to know how to protect themselves. I believe that is my God given mission and purpose in this industry and world. I train , employ, and partner with some of the best officers and security companies in the DMV. We have secured festivals with 100,000 attendees, private high end weddings, school events, shopping centers, and just recently the grand opening of Bar Vegan and Slutty Vegan in the Baltimore Peninsula.
Moving beyond the idea stage to the execution stage takes dedication to learning, improving, training, and putting your booots on the ground every single day. Consistancy is something all succesful people mention but consistancy at what ? Is the part everyone leaves out when giving advice. You have to be consistant at caring for yourself while building a business, spreading the word about your buisness, showing up in your business, building a functional team , and pouring back into your people and business.
I might have some success currently but im in a new idea stage right now and im working toward the new execution stage for 2025! It is a never ending cycle.

“ALWAYS PROTECT YOURSELF ” and STAY S.E.C.U.R.E are my tagg lines for my personal brand and my company because to know me is to know that these are the things I want most for everyone wether it’s physically, finacially, emotionally, spiritually, enviromentally, or mentally you deserve to be protected.
Every class I offer, job oppurtunity I provide, speech I give touches on those subjects in some way. I have experienced not being protected personally and professionally. I want to prevent anyone under my tutualage from experiencing the same situations.
I’ve been in this industry for almost 20 years now, and I’ve worked on almost every side in every capacity. 2025 is my year to share my knowledge to build up others in this industry. I host a master mind for those looking to start their own security firms, I have ebooks such as “HOW TO MAKE MONEY AS A PRIVATE DETECTIVE” to help those looking to make 6 figures as a P.I. , My company After Hourz Security is one of the few companys who have their curriculum approved by Maryland police and correctional training commission. We are dedicated to elevating the industry and giving elevated service to our clients, and that starts with training.
We have accumulated so many long-lasting client relationships and repeat customers due to our dedication to our core values, which are security, equity, community, responsibility, and elevation. We offer all of those things in so many ways. The most noticeable way is how we show up to service our clients whether we are in tactical gear, suit attire, plain clothes we show up fully trained and fully equipped for the job.
Through this journey of being the CEO of After Hourz Security, I think im most proud of my officers and how much they grow under the umbrella of After Hourz, the oppurtunities they leverage their training to get, the titles and accomplishments they recieve after leaving us. I would be nothing without my team!
Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
I am 10% owner in a local security company called Black Wolf Protective services, I invested into that company in 2023 and the process was pretty simple I saw some areas of improvment and leveraged my expertise to help them close the gap on those issues, and then made my offer to become an advisory bored member which came with a stake in the company. I didnt just invest in the company but I invested in it’s owner Matthew Stuart who is Army veteran, father, and overall hugry young man looking to elevate the out look on the private security sector.
With his company focusing on bettering the living conditions for residents in Baltimore city who reside in certain apartment buildings and utilize the surrounding area commercial properties. Black wolf accomplishes this by providing around the clock security services , vagrant sweep teams and more. There was no clear conflict of intrest just an oppurtunity to help build up the dream of a fellow entreprenuer in the industry I love so much.
I do plan on doing this same aquisition again in the near future and I am open to anyone reaching out to discuss this type of partnership. I invested in Black wol because to many Black owned companies fail due to simply not having the right licensing or not knowing a small bit of information that could cost them big in legal fees. I want to stand in the gap and provide guidance to those who come after me. Helping with back ebs set up, grossing more revenue, and more.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
So the biggest marketing risk I ever took im still experiencing it crrently , I blindly form Buffalo New York rented an apartment in the Baltimore Peninsula which is a brand new neigborhood spear headed by Kevin Plank and Mag partners a female owned development company. My company After Hourz had provided security service for a major festival on the Port Convington side of that development and our impecable service caught the eye of the hire ups and we were asked to come in for a tour and a meeting for a possible position as their on call security vendor for special events.
Fast forward to me having to abruptly move from my current aprtment at the time , I was on vacation and had to handle the eitire situation from afar. While looking for a place to live ,I remembered all the grand ideas and things coming to the Baltimore Peninsula area and said to myself After Hourz needs to be in the middle of all that oppurtunity. So I rented an apartment sight unseen, signed my elease on the Pennsylvania turnpike, had my security officers pack and move me, and I showed up, unlocked the door and moved in all on the same day!
That’s when the marketing strategy was to begin phase one solidifying the relationship with the peninsula via social media support by naturally enjoying my new neighborhood and documenting my work life balance. I then was approched by them to provide security for some events which led to getting asked to be a feature in a resident campaign. Which then created the line to new residential tenants and commercial lease tenants. They were able to be exposed and become familar with my personal brand and company services just by clicking my name on the Baltimore Peninsula page. So phase two had naturally started on it’s own people will watch the feature and reach out to book us for training or security. We actually were hired by one of my neighbors to provide security service for a nearby town center that they managed and that ended up being a 5 year deal.
It was just a year ago that I took a risk and moved into these luxury apartments on the water that cost double what I was paying at my previous apartment but I have made double the revenue while living here. It was a personal decision lead by a business minded thought process that I will never regret. It is still paying of to this day. We started the new year of by providing security for Pinky Cole and her newest edition to the Bar vegan/Slutty vegan empire located in the Baltimore Peninsula!
