We recently connected with Jaylene Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaylene thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I started a personal development journey in 2020. As I moved into 2021, I experienced some life events that shook me and made me question my purpose. During this time, I joined a skincare company with some friends from back home, which pushed me to post my writing about what I was going through. In high school, a photography teacher planted the seeds of my interest in photography and writing as creative passions, but I never thought I could stay involved in the agriculture world while embracing my creativity.
I have done photography on the side since high school and have always loved showing the agriculture world from my perspective. After severe corporate burnout, I started personal coaching to learn how to manage myself better and work through my burnout. As I continued to work on myself and discover who I was, my creative endeavors continued to grow. I started a writing page in 2022 and was published in the fall of that year. I attended a women’s retreat in 2023 that opened many doors for me and helped me see where I wanted to go.
The idea for this business was probably planted back in 2020, but the challenges I faced in the years since then helped me clarify what I wanted it to look like. I have always been a person who sees things from a different perspective, is open to having hard discussions to impact change, and is a natural problem solver. I believe these gifts, combined with my creative passions and love for agriculture, lit the fire in me to create a company that challenges the status quo, empowers women in the Western industry, and showcases people in the agriculture world who are willing to do things differently.
The Ranchy Redhead Media Co. is just getting started but has already gained great traction. I knew it was a worthwhile endeavor when people reached out to me about how the interviews I conducted on my writing page were helping them, how my photography was helping people find their inner confidence, and how my writing was helping people connect to feelings and emotions they hadn’t known how to express. I am excited to see how combining these media forms will open the door to challenging certain traditional narratives in the agriculture industry and create a space where people with different ideals can be seen and heard.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jaylene Scott, and I grew up on a ranch in Northern California, where I developed a deep love for animal agriculture and ranching. In high school, a teacher encouraged my interest in photography by letting me use his gear at local rodeos and urged me to write for the school paper. After some of my photography was published in local papers and magazines, I decided to buy my own camera and pursue photography more seriously.
After college, I worked for a corporate agriculture company, where I felt stifled creatively and frustrated by outdated processes. My ideas for efficiency improvements were often dismissed, leading to burnout and prompting me to question my future in the agriculture industry. This challenging period led me to hire a personal coach who helped me reconnect with my passions, resulting in a major career shift back to ranching.
I founded The Ranchy Redhead Media Co to produce engaging interviews, discussions, and articles focused on entrepreneurship, innovative thinking, and mental health through podcasting and writing. The photography side of the company offers content creation services, including livestock and horse marketing, western lifestyle storytelling, and portrait photography tailored for farmers, ranchers, and western enthusiasts. Our mission is to help the agriculture community share their stories and connect with consumers through powerful imagery and words.
What makes The Ranchy Redhead Media Co unique is my diverse background in the livestock industry, combined with rodeo and livestock evaluation experience. My time at the corporate company gave me a unique perspective on bridging the gap between producers and consumers. My photography is edgy and unique, bringing out the story or personality of the subject. In horse and livestock marketing, I leverage my experience with high-end performance and racehorses, as well as my background in evaluating high-quality livestock, to help clients achieve the best presentation.
My openness about my struggles and mental health journey fosters deep, vulnerable conversations that I am excited to bring to my podcast, creating a space for guests to share authentically. I am proud that my writing has encouraged others to explore their mental health journeys and that my photography has helped people see themselves in a new light.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I made a major pivot when I switched from Corporate America to working for a family owned ranch. I went from having 10 years of seniority and a management position where I had a lot of perks to working a highly physical job where I was at the bottom of the food chain and the only woman of the hired ranch employees. It was an amazing change but also a very challenging one. It has given me a very unique viewpoint on overcoming challenges, facing fear, working with people, and how I represent myself as a woman. It has also helped me connect to the power I have as a woman and taught me some very valuable life lessons. I think one of the things that Corporate America tries to force on women is that you have to play the game like a man. I think my journey over the last 10 years has really taught me that being a woman gives me an advantage in a lot of ways because I see and handle things differently. I hope that by continuing to work on myself I can open the door for other women to stand up and be true to themselves as they follow their dreams.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to empower women of the western lifestyle to reconnect with their freedom and innocence to pursue their dreams. Women are often told by society or their families what they should be, leading them to abandon their true aspirations. I want to help women rediscover their inner joy and passion to create fulfilling lives free from burnout and misery.
