We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jayce Prince. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jayce below.
Jayce, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
From the beginning I was always an active kid, whether it be physically or mentally. Growing up with ADHD is quite the experience especially when you have so many thoughts you want to express or act on but to never have the right outlets to do so. My discovery into music started with CD’s and radio as it did with every other kid born in the 90’s/2000’s. My family always noticed I wasn’t quite the normal kid because of the way music touched my soul and I had no issue letting anyone within a hearing distance know about it. Music was the highlight of my day. Every single day. Unfortunately with the mixture of fears of not being accepted among my peers and the fear of failure I didn’t begin to actually tap into my own creative energy in the music world until I was 19 years old. There was so much opportunities to expand on what I always knew I had within me while I was growing up that I missed out on because of my fears. Now that I am 6 years into my music journey, the failures of an upcoming artist are being taken head on at 25 years old which I’m sure many would agree that failures as an adult hit a little harder than a child. If I could take younger me under my wing I would make sure to put myself out there, expose myself to the hardships of finding your sound while balancing the self-doubt, judgement from non-creatives, etc. However me not pursuing my dreams from the beginning has taught me that my biggest mistake has become the biggest eye-opening lesson ever. This lesson is that this is my life and I am destined to do what I was shown I was meant for since a young age, regardless of outside opinions. Let my story be the biggest triumph and perfect example of overcoming your own mind and the restraints it has created for you, for any and all creatives who share a similar vision as myself. You can do it. The world has enough has enemies and hurdles for you to overcome, don’t be your own. Join that chorus, take music class in high school seriously, upload that cringey song on your hard drive that you thought was the greatest song ever recorded when you made it. Although my journey did not start when I felt it should’ve, it started when it was meant to.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jayce but I go by Jay. I am a music artist and don’t place myself in any box because being an artist is so much more than a title to me. As I unlock more ideas and have more experiences, my music grows with me. I am a believer that music comes from the soul and is meant to nourish the soul, so I hope to nourish souls with my music as it has for me so much.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in my creative journey is simply put for me to be an artist who creates music that I love and that I can connect with others with.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe in this world, there will always be people who will support what you do, whether it be creatives or non-creatives. But that is balanced out by the non-believers (haters), otherwise everyone could win and be prosperous. So find your groups of people who support what you do and find value in what you provide so you can feed off of each other and build each other up.
