Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Misurka. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jason, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Already having a background in art through College studies in Art Fundamentals and Animation, I fully immersed myself in painting during Covid and began building a strong body of work. Now, six years into the journey, my work is gaining momentum and attracting growing attention.
My style is rooted in contemporary abstract art, combining airbrush techniques and masking film to create layered depth and fluid movement. I often incorporate free-flowing inks and hand-painted details as final touches, bringing added texture and energy to each composition. Ultimately, my goal is to create work that lifts the spirit and evokes joy through movement, colour, and expression.

Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I literally did a deep dive and just started creating. At the beginning, I didn’t really have experience navigating the professional art world, so there was definitely a major learning curve while finding my direction and building momentum as an artist.
Since then, the journey has evolved significantly. To date, I’ve participated in over 15 group exhibitions, held 2 solo exhibitions, completed commissioned works, and collaborated with businesses that align with my artistic style and creative flow. One of my commission opportunities came through a private event where my artwork was on display. A sommelier from Port Colborne who owned a wine storage and tasting room connected with my work and approached me with an idea to help enhance the atmosphere for patrons attending wine tastings and culinary experiences.
Together, we developed a three-panel triptych featuring an abstract interpretation inspired by wine, texture, and culinary presentation. The final result created a strong visual atmosphere within the space and the response was outstanding.
Today, I continue to work as a full-time active artist, creating and selling contemporary abstract artwork while continuing to grow my portfolio, collaborations, and exhibition presence

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first started my art-focused Instagram profile, it was challenging to gain attention and build a following organically. Like many emerging artists, I had to learn how to promote my work and connect with a wider audience of creatives, art lovers, and collectors.
To help increase visibility, I began using some of the promotional tools available through Instagram, including paid boosts. I personally managed the campaign settings by targeting specific demographics, primarily art collectors and audiences between the ages of 30–60 across Canada and the USA. To keep the promotion affordable and strategic, I would typically run campaigns for two weeks at a modest budget of approximately $3 per day.
These efforts helped expand my reach, grow my audience, and create greater engagement around my artwork. Over time, this contributed to building a stronger online presence and attracting more followers genuinely interested in my style and work.
Reaching over 10,000 followers also opened the opportunity to become Meta Verified, which added another level of professionalism and credibility to my online presence as a working artist.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I believe some of the best opportunities for acquiring new clientele have come through social media exposure and private collaborative projects. Building relationships and aligning with businesses that share a similar creative vision has played a major role in expanding my reach as an artist.
A few years ago, I had a custom bespoke suit made at Eric Sana Bespoke. From the moment I walked into the shop, the owner and I connected through our shared appreciation for creativity, craftsmanship, and design. We both understood the parallels between fashion and art — in many ways, Eric creates with fabric the same way I create with paint and composition.
Later on, he reached out to collaborate while relocating his business to a new space. The concept was centered around “Art Meets Fashion,” using contemporary artwork within the showroom environment to create a unique atmosphere that would engage and attract new clientele. The collaboration allowed my work to be viewed in a completely different context while introducing it to a sophisticated audience interested in luxury lifestyle and design.
Through that in-store display, I was later introduced to one of Eric’s associates who co-owns Wine Academy, a private members-only wine storage and tasting facility in Toronto that hosts wine corking events and curated culinary experiences. During a private tour of the space, the owner invited me to present a private art exhibition for their members.
That event became an incredible opportunity to further expand my audience, connect with new collectors, and introduce my work to a clientele that genuinely appreciated art, atmosphere, and elevated experiences. Experiences like these have shown me how powerful collaboration and authentic networking can be in organically growing both visibility and professional opportunities as an artist.
