We recently connected with Jason Bahamundi and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
The best investment I’ve made as the owner of Run Tri Bike Magazine was to hire the Witmer Group to handle the building and maintenance of our website. I tend to be an idea person and don’t understand the nuts and bolts of building a website and the Witmer Group has turned my ideas into the site you see today.
Kristina Witmer, owner, and I have a call every week and we discuss the business and how the website can play a role. For example, I wanted to have events from across the country on our site. We partnered with Brian Hunt at Let’s Race App to power our events and Kristina figured out the best way to make that happen.
Now, we import events from Brian’s app and the events are posted to our site. This gives us the opportunity to serve our readers with not just tips and tricks but to then find a race on our site to apply them and we don’t step on the Let’s Race App toes.
Having a partner like the Witmer Group allows me to develop ideas for our business knowing that she and her team will make it
Jason, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a co-owner of Endurance Sports Investment Group which publishes the Run Tri Bike magazine and website. I’ve been an endurance athlete for nearly 14 years and have had a passion for these sports since I started. During the pandemic, it dawned on me that a lot of new people were entering these sports I wanted to have a resource to help guide them.
The content that we produce is geared toward beginners, but they are also great reminders for athletes that have been involved in these sports for some time. We also wanted to remind our reader that you should have fun doing these sports and our stories reflect that.
Our exclusive features of How It All Started and Your Best Running Buddy get to the heart of our vision and mission. We highlight stories of the every day athlete. These stories are inspiring and motivating and show that life is full of obstacles but endurance sports can help you over come them. Your Best Running Buddy brings smiles to our readers faces because they are stories of the animals that run with their owners. I know when I see these stories I smile from ear to ear.
We produce a bi-monthly magazine with articles and stories only found in the magazine but we also add articles to our website on a constant basis. If you’re looking to get into endurance sports or are looking for reminder then our platform is where to go. If you’re a business that wants to target athletes just getting started in endurance sports, and that means running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, trail running, gravel cycling, etc we are the multimedia platform to do that with.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Angela Naeth via Instagram. Yes, Instagram. I had been following Angela’s I Race Like A Girl team on Instagram and one day that account liked 3 pictures of mine. As an entrepreneur, I figured that was an opportunity to reach out to Angela directly and see if I Race Like A Girl would like to be a part of the Run Tri Bike multimedia platform. I had no intention of finding a business partner.
I sent a direct message to Angela that was along the lines of: Hey, I’m the guy that I Race Like A Girl just liked 3 pictures of and I’ve started a new multimedia platform and would like to talk to you about it.
Angela responded and told me she’d like to be a part of it but not just as an advertiser. Within 10 days, we had an agreement written and Angela became a co-owner in Endurance Sports Investment Group.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m not sure that we are old enough (1 Year in business as of January 2022) but I asked the women that write for us to tell us what we’ve done right and what we’ve done wrong during our first year so that we can build on that heading into our second year.
The responses came back with a lot of positivity especially with how we have stuck to what we set out to do and that was to inform and educate the beginner athlete in endurance sports. Our goal was to provide guidance and information for getting started and our writers have done a great job of bringing articles that do just that. Reviewing these articles allowed us to stay on track with our goal and the feedback we received proved that for us.
As we continue to grow, and continue to stay on track with showing beginners that there is a place at the starting line for them and that we all started somewhere then our reputation will continue to grow in a positive manner.
