We recently connected with Jasmine Tiara and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I officially started my business in June of 2023. I was laid off of my job in January of 2023 and after a week of being home with my son I did not have any desire to go back to work for another employer. After four months of being unemployed, and seriously contemplating starting a business. I took the last of my savings and I decided to invest it all in the start of my business: Jazzin Jewels Holistic Body Care. I filed for my LLC, brought all the materials I needed, and just like that I had become broke in the blink of an eye.
I was getting into a new market that was slim to none in my community and holistic health to some is still very foreign. After purchasing my necessities for my business, I started having cold feet, I had become anxious about my idea. I was financially unstable, and I was starting something new, and all I had was my faith in God. I was constantly forgetting to enjoy the process and I was very much stealing my joy of being a new business owner. I had been making my products for my close family and friends for years. It is something that I really enjoy, and I knew that my products were great and of good quality. I was just scared of rejection and failure.
So, shortly after I started my Holistic Body Care business, I took an eight-week course to become a doula. After finishing my doula course, I then started another business. Sales from my first business was ok, I was still new, but I was bringing in some money to keep my family afloat. In October of 2023 when my second business launched, I received my very first client and sales were still slow, but they were still coming in. Christmas season was not what I wanted it to be, but it was busy enough for me seeing that at one point I was not making any sales weeks at a time.
Now that we have gotten into the New Year 2024, I have seen a spike in sales. My regulars are coming back with bigger orders, and they are bringing friends with them. Although I am still within my first year of both of my business, I know that they both hold value and they both can produce extreme revenue if I keep to them. I am currently working on my business website, but I am on Tik-Tok shop @Jazzinjewels_ . I appreciate taking this risk. Starting from a humble beginning allows my peers and even myself to respect my process. and my business growth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a mom first and then a businesswoman immediately after. I have two businesses: I make Holistic body care products and I am a Full Spectrum Doula. I started making holistic body care products for my son and myself when my son was just under a year. He was experiencing eczema, and all of the products I received from the doctors weren’t doing him much good. I was already into herbal allopathic remedies and researching holistic alternatives for just about everything already.
I started making my son’s body butter specifically for his eczema. Of course, with his results I made more and more. I started using it, as well as my friends and family. Overtime I started learning about adding natural scents without the chemical fragrances for myself. I found a true hobby in creating body care products. now that I am successfully into by body care business, I have several Herbal Body butters, two hair oils and a Pain relief Body oil (come in a body butter as well)
My Holistic Body butters are made for but not limited to those who are experiencing Dermatitis, atopic eczema, psoriasis, aging spots, skin scarring, hyperpigmentation, lack of collogen, and unwanted wrinkled skin.

While being innovative and creating new scents and putting myself out in the market, to set myself apart I started offering customized ordering for my clients. I can use whatever oils they prefer, I can add body glitter, and I can add essential oils of their liking, I can do just about anything to satisfy my clienteles and seriously enjoy creating custom orders.
I help people change their life experience. I truly enjoy educating my community and creating content on my social media platform. I know that my sincere passion sets me apart from my competitors. I am also always willing to teach, to help solve and be a part of my client’s skin health mysteries and experiences. I strive myself on providing my clients with affordable, all natural products. My clients aren’t just sales, they’re my support, and they’re my community.
Becoming a doula is something I am most proud of. It is such an honorable position to be in and so far, I have loved everything about it. So far, I have only had one family and assisted that mom in birthing a beautiful baby boy. The experience for me was breathtaking, being able to share that space with a mom in her most vulnerable state is something I will never take for granted and I plan to have more clients in the spectrum of my business starting March of 2024. With my Body care products going in store February 2024, I really want to focus on inventory because when I have families, I really like to put my all into them and their needs.
I am most proud of myself. I have overcome a lot and I am constantly learning, growing and doing. There is no such thing as failure for me, just lessons. In 8 months, I have started two businesses, my body care products have been a part of my city’s local farmers market, they will soon be featured in a store in my city, I have attended several pop-up shops, and they are also available on Tik-Tok shop. I would like for my potential clientele to know that I am passionate about people, I truly love to help and making my products for people who needs them seriously makes me happy.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Since I am still in the first year of opening both of my businesses, I can honestly say word of mouth has been my best source so far. But I do utilize all my social media platforms and I post daily on some and I keep engagement with my current clients, and I am always seeking for new ones via social media.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
So far, I believe that I have grown my clientele by: having great communication skills, being consistent, producing high quality products, knowing my craft, and my passion for people. I am also making a presence in my community; I am constantly posting on social media and presenting my products, their benefits and qualities.
