Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Ohen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Okay, this question is so perfectly timed. For about 2 years I was coaching informally but at the top of the year, I officially launched my formal consulting business. At the time I was only offering 1 service- nonprofit startup coaching. I really enjoyed it! Helping community leaders nationally launch their purposeful nonprofits felt like a dream come true. Within 6 months of me walking deeper in my purpose, the demand grew. More women began coming to me for coaching. I noticed that within the 8 weeks of my 1:1 coaching, I was organically helping women walk boldly in their purpose through entrepreneurship. It felt second nature. As I was growing I was able to teach the same skills and strategies to, my clients/students. The Lord was getting me ready to expand my brand from- Nonprofit Startup Coach to a Business and Purpose Coach. In the beginning, I was fearful of expanding my brand because I didn’t want to confuse my audience. Now I see how perfectly timed everything was! From the transition to expansion, and authentic community growth I’ve been able to execute the expansion.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ll spare you the boring “yaddy yaw” resume blurb. If you want to know who I AM, I’ll tell you! Jasmine of House Ohen First of Her Name. Keeper of Joy. Breaker of Spiritual Warefare. Puller of Purpose. Storyteller of Things. Lover of Community. Knucker of Bucking. Multiplier and Amplifier. THAT’S WHO I AM!
Now WHAT I do- I speak publically, build businesses, and give generously. All of that perfectly fits in the titles we love: Public Speaker, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
You really have to define YOUR WHY! I show up authentically as myself. I have great engagement on my social media. I attribute a huge amount of that to me understanding my why. I got clear on my 3 social media pillars. Social media pillars are kind of like your “foundation”. One of mine is women’s empowerment. You won’t come on my page and see my slandering a woman because that’s just not me and it doesn’t align with my pillar. Your pillar is what you stand on. It gives you a great foundation. Of course, you can have more than 3. However, 3 keeps it clear and organized so your audience knows what to expect when you post. In return, your engagement will grow and the followers will naturally come.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Oh, this is easy! When I was 8 I was in a grease fire. I have about 25% of 3rd-degree burns on the lower half of my body. You’ll love this story! I was just released from the hospital and ordered to “take it easy.” The only problem with that order, is I’M NOSEY!! In the back of the apartment, I could hear my Mom and Sister laughing. Frustrated on the couch I grabbed my giant candy and lifted myself upright. Now just a little more context, I was burned around Christmas time so I received lots of gifts leaving the hospital. One happened to be a candy cane 1/2 the size of my body. As I mustered up enough courage to walk on my “new” feet, I knew the pain would shoot through my legs to my head. In spite of the pain I stepped. Every step carried it’s own struggles. My candy cane was my anchor from falling. As my hand swipped the wall their giggles grew closer. When I made it to the door frame my Mom said “Jazz Jazz!” In amazement both of them met me at the doorway to lower me to the bed. Internally, I was so happy to be “back in the action” and was seriously amazed that I made it from the couch to the back of the apartment by myself. Despite the throbbing in my feet I was grateful I didn’t give up. I went as far as I could go and had my community there (my family) ready to shoulder the rest of the burden with me. When I feel like I CAN’T, I remind myself of that story how I DID! With support and vulnerability. God was with me every step!
