We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Jeffery a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I actually do handle Jasminum Hair Care’s social media accounts! This has to be one of the many tasks that comes easy for me when creating content but finding time to dedicate to posting and being active is the difficult part in my opinion. Social media is a tricky topic to understand when promoting products due to how the applications algorithm is set up. There are specific days and times when people are more prone to be active on social media than any other day or time. With that in mind, being on a time crunch for posting is just not possible for me at this time in my life. Now, I believe if I hired a team, it would be extremely beneficial for my business and sales. However, I absolutely enjoy the authenticity my social media pages have and the connection I can make with my customers when responding to them in real-time. Building a social media presence is extremely salient to branding a business but building a relationship with each customer is worth way more! My hope is in the near future, I will be able to hire a team and expand my social media presence but, in the meantime, I am overjoyed to manage my business social media accounts! You can find Jasminum Haircare on Instagram, Facebook, and Tik-Tok, my handle is @JasminumHaircare!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, my name is Jasmine Jeffery, I am the Founder and CEO of Jasminum Haircare! Jasminum Haircare began April 16th, 2021, I launched my business strictly due to the fact that I needed a hair product that would moisturize and grow my hair. Prior to launching Jasminum Haircare, I had no knowledge of how to create hair care products. I studied and practiced my craft for two years before launching my business, within one of those two years I noticed that my products were transforming my hair for the better. My hair was no longer dry, frizzy, short, and damaged, my hair was now healthy, moisturized, voluminous, and had grown from shoulder length to waist length! After creating a hair routine and managing (cutting my ends, washing weekly, & deep conditioning) my hair I knew it was time to share my products with the world! I currently sale, three amazing products; The Gold Label Product Hair Growth Oil, The Black Label Product Beard Oil, and my Goldylock Curl Cream. All of my hair care products have been crafted to penetrate hair follicles promoting healthy hair growth! I am also expanding my business, creating a skincare line, this will be launching summer 2022! “I am extremely excited about this line; I believe women all over will love my new skin products”.
There are many aspects I believe that set’s Jasminum Haircare apart from other hair brands, one of them is that all my products have the perfect balance of moisture and 100% natural ingredients combined crafting the perfect hair product for all types of hair. Rather, Curly, Coily, Coarse, Fine, and the list goes on! “I can truly admit that all of my products are quite amazing and can transform individuals’ hair to their desired hair goals if they have a hair routine and great products!”
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Wow! This is a good question; I believe I encounter difficulties everyday when it comes to owning a business. From lack of funding and time, to balancing work, school, and social life, to having an effective web presence, and the list goes on. However, all of these things are everyday difficult encounters that comes with being a business owner, “it’s truly everyday life!” But if I had to provide one example, I would share a time when I first launched Jasminum Haircare. Before I illustrate this moment, I would disclose from my understanding, resilience can be described as the ability bounce back from a difficult time or situation. On the day I launched my business I would’ve never imagined my grand opening being one of the hardest days I’ve encounter. I had lost a person in my life that was important to me, although this was a celebratory moment for me it also was difficult. In that moment I had experienced both Joy and Pain! This was one of the best and worst lesson’s I have ever experienced, this moment often time reminds me of the amount of strength and resilience God has truly given me!! One of my favorite quote’s state that “life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we become stronger and more resilient in this life”- Steve Maraboli.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding Jasminum Haircare was a challenge for me, I had no idea how much money I would have to invest to start my business. “Honestly it was trail and error!” Before my business took off, I had to secure funding, which meant saving a specific amount of money, searching for honest investors, and working overtime! “I was working two jobs prior to launching Jasminum Haircare”. I quickly learned that the money I had set aside was not enough to fully develop my business, I needed more! After a quick realization, I sat down with my manager and created a financial plan! I encountered weekly meetings, strictly for funding my business “This was such a humbling experience!”. After reviewing my budget plan, the funds that I sat aside went to some of the big-ticketed items, getting certified, purchasing equipment, developing products, marketing, and inventory, but there was so much more to do prior to launching! “I could go on & on, but I learned so much during that time and if I had too do it all over again, I would!”.
MY story is nothing fancy but can be described as motivation because I worked A LOT of hours and planned accordingly to my needs and my business’s needs. “Even after two years of business, I can say I still have that hustle mentality working to brand/promote Jasminum Haircare to my best ability!”. If I could offer one piece of advice to a newly business owner, it would be that capital does come & go but take time at the beginning to make a financial plan/budget on current credit & funds and DO YOUR BEST TO STICK TO IT!
