We recently connected with Janis Lozano and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Janis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have been in this industry since I was 17 years old. It is what I am most passionate about, but certainly not the easiest. Over the 29 years of my career, I have seen a lot, done a lot, and have been blessed to be able to make a full time living off my biggest passions. Like the saying, do what you love, and you never will work a day in your life, I hold that true to my heart, because my work, never feels like work, but always the opportunity to create, collaborate and make art. Starting out, I had to pay my dues, assist, learn the ropes, set etiquette, network and do a lot of free work to get my name out there and build my portfolio of work. But if you dedicate your self to it, work hard, are kind to others, and easy to work with, pretty soon, the industry starts paying attention, and calls you for gigs. I think being humble and kind, is a big characteristic to being successful in this industry, being able to jump in and help where you can, wear many hats, and overall be willing to work hard. I think that’s what made me successful. Being someone people wanted to be around. Being someone who was flexible, helpful and willing to learn. Throughout my career I have always cherished that.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a wardrobe stylist, makeup artist, and art director, with a passion for helping people, brands, and businesses tell their story through visual identity. My career started with a love of fashion, beauty, and the transformative power of personal style. Over the years, that passion evolved into a career that spans commercial productions, advertising campaigns, editorial shoots, live events, and personal styling.
What I love most about my work is that it sits at the intersection of creativity and problem-solving. Whether I’m styling a national advertising campaign, creating a beauty look for a photoshoot, or helping a brand define its visual presence, my goal is always the same, to create work that feels authentic, intentional, and impactful.
I provide wardrobe styling, makeup artistry, creative direction, production support, and brand-focused visual consulting. My clients range from individuals looking to elevate their personal image to brands and creative teams seeking a cohesive visual story. I help solve challenges around brand perception, visual consistency, talent presentation, and audience connection. In a world where first impressions happen quickly, I help ensure those impressions are memorable for the right reasons.
What sets me apart is my ability to see the bigger picture. I don’t just focus on clothing, makeup, or aesthetics in isolation. I think about how every visual element works together to communicate a message. My background across multiple creative disciplines allows me to collaborate seamlessly with photographers, producers, marketing teams, and talent while keeping both creative vision and business goals in mind.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the diversity of projects and people I’ve had the opportunity to work with throughout my career. From large-scale commercial productions to one-on-one client transformations, I never take for granted the trust people place in me to help bring their vision to life. Seeing a client feel confident, seeing a campaign resonate with an audience, or watching an idea evolve from concept to reality is incredibly rewarding.
Above all, I want people to know that my work is rooted in authenticity, collaboration, and attention to detail. I believe great creative work isn’t about following trends, it’s about understanding people, telling meaningful stories, and creating visuals that leave a lasting impression. Every project is an opportunity to create something memorable, and I approach each one with curiosity, professionalism, and a genuine love for what I do.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a following on social media is probably one of the hardest things I have had to do as a business owner. For one, I am not a fan of it. But I am aware that it is crucial for my role to have it, and boost it. I think for me the biggest opportunity, is to always be authentic. To tell the story with morality, value and to remain true to your self. I feel that is the best way to gain an organic following, creating honest content that resonates with your core values and morals. Engaging your audience with authenticity and vulnerability.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest driver in my creative journey, is the true sheer passion I possess for it. I absolutely love what I do, and cannot imagine doing anything else. Even after 29 years in this industry, I pinch my self now and then, and stop to admire where I am, who I am working with, and the many blessings this career offers me. It feels like the best job anyone can have, and I am truly grateful daily, that I get to do it.
