Hi Jamilah, thanks for joining us today. Have you ever seen (or implemented) a really awesome way to show a client you appreciate them
My business is based solely on the relationships that I build with my clients and the value that I provide to them. As an appreciation for their trusting me with their business, I often send them birthday and Christmas gifts each year. It’s always a surprise to them when they receive a box of specialty cookies are cocktails as a gift.
Jamilah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Black Wealth Financial after learning some very important money lessons the hard way. Being completely clueless as to how credit cards, mortgages, or 401ks worked, I found herself making horrible money moves and financial decisions, which would ultimately impact my financial future in a very real way. The process of dealing with money is very personal to me and I often see a similarity and feel a connection with my clients no matter where they are along their financial path.“You don’t know what you don’t know, and if no one has taught you, you’re out there just winging it with your money and quite possibly not doing a good job at it.” And that’s a perfect time that I like to step in.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Howard University and believe that my background
in behavioral science helps me understand how people think and feel in regard to their personal debt
and finances.
“There’s no room for judgment when it comes to the money issues you have because we’ve all been there at one point in time. And if the truth is completely told, most of us are still there, and simply avoiding the problem.”
My goal is to eliminate my clients’ anxiety around money and to proactively and quickly get them out of debt, and on the path to living their best financial lives. I’ve been dedicated to this pursuit for over a decade and see myself more as a financial coach and strategist.
My action plans are very hands-on and I’m not afraid to speak the hard truths and realities when it comes to you and your money. I help my clients get their financial shit together and understand their money and how it works.
Originally from San Diego, CA, I have added to the overpopulation of Los Angeles, CA for the past 10 years. In my spare time I enjoy an intense game of Words With Friends, reading, trying to travel to places other than countries in South America, obsessing over cookies and peanut butter, and spending time with my family. I have been requested to speak in various public forums and have landed coverage in several print and broadcast outlets, including Fox News & Yahoo. I’m currently professionally licensed in several states.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think being relatable and transparent has been very helpful for people to get to know me and trust me. Clients know I understand them and I’ve been in their shoes and that translates to connection and empathy.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I initially started my business with a different name and focus demographic. I specialized in working with healthcare professionals and had a lot of doctor and nurse clients. I decided to make a deliberate switch to rebrand and open up my services to everyone instead of being so niche.
