We recently connected with James Hunt and have shared our conversation below.
Hi James, thanks for joining us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Sacrificing and always thinking about the big picture; that is how I scaled up. It took me three years to scale up in real estate, I had to move back home to start my journey – going from living alone to having a roommate. There were times when I felt like I would never scale up, but eventually it happened because I remained consistent and committed to the process.

James, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My most recent business (216 Auto Pros) was not something I planned on doing. After being motivated by my girlfriend, who began to experience success in the rental car business, I decided to also invest in the industry. One rental car quickly turned into four rental cars for me, and I needed somewhere to park/clean, them. One of my employees suggested I start looking for a building and decided to go with the idea because it made sense to me. A few months later, I opened up 216 Auto Pros – an automotive services shop in Brook Park, OH offering interior detail, window tint, and hand car wash in the Cleveland Metropolitan Area.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Book: The Richest Man in Babylon
I feel that this book provides not only life tips, but the keys to success in business. It is a must read for ALL!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I remember I was depending on being able to re-finance a property to pull money out and invest in another property. Of course, that did not happen due to a lien that was on the home I did not know about. I was crushed and felt I would never be able to scale up! Instead of giving up, I decided to just save money and remained patient while the process worked itself out. I eventually was able to save up money and refinanced the home! Everything always works out when it is supposed to.
