Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamal Charles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jamal, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

From day 1, I knew I wanted to create my own universe, where all characters and ideas could run wild with no real restrictions. Once I had that down, I started looking for something that symbolized a new beginning, and me being of the Christian faith Noah`s Ark came to mind. I also wanted to be different, so I changed the K with a C and started thinking of words that fit the acronym and eventually landed on Artistic Realm Creation, ARC for short.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

As a kid I was drawn to cartoons, comics, and sports. On rainy days it wasn`t like today where you could stream whatever you want. If you didn’t have it on DVD, VHS, or if it wasn’t on TV, you couldn’t watch it. So, on the days when we couldn`t go outside and nothing “good” was on tv my cousins, brothers, and I would basically create characters, and put them in a world where they go on adventures with everyone getting a chance to put their character into the story and tell how they would handle a situation. So now I`m doing that on a bigger scale with comic books.

I honestly just dove into the industry in the worst way. I often laugh now but then I was upset and confused. I truly used and thought if you build, they will come. I first did a little research on how to create comic books by reading books, articles, and doing my googles. After that I found an artist to partner with and created a book and put it out for sale. What I didn’t do was proofread, advertise, learn the community, nor build within that community. All that is needed to have success and be a true creative in this industry, and I learn that the hard way. Since I started in 2020, I formed alliances within the indie community, shared knowledge of what I did learn from launch, and collabed on multiple creative projects. Now I know a bit, still learning, and plan to never stop learning the industry

There’s not many abilities or superpowers that haven’t been used before, whether it’s in mythology, folklore, or some other superheroes. I try to embrace this by not only creating my own original character, but also creating my own characters and places based on mythology and folklore. I also try to bring my characters to life by showing that they are just like us with families, careers, goals, etc. I feel my work reflects life.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

You have to do your research before anything and everything, but you also have to take chances. The goal is to take health risk. What I call health risk many other may call calculated risk. I say this because if you don’t have a prior relationship with a vendor, then you are taking a chance of getting back bad product, late product, scammed, etc., and as a small business owner this can be crippling. My best advice for avoiding all of this is asking someone who did it before. That person doesn`t have to be in the exact same industry for example I`m in the comic industry, but for merch I can reach out to not only someone in the comic space but the retail space as well for trusted vendors.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I spoke on how my first launch in 2020 was bad. Well after that I join a few other guys immersing myself more so in the indie comic community and truly learning the art of business, and in 2024 I relaunched. Doing better now than I did before. I`m not close to where I want to be but I`m a lot closer than I was before.
