We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jada Mullins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jada below.
Jada, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
We all know taking risks can be scary. Right ? It’s very uncertain of what may happen next and honestly as a business owner the risk taking never stops. You literally bet on yourself every important move you take but this is where faith comes in. I took the biggest risk in quitting my 9-5 to flourish in my business. The reason why it was so big for me is because a Job, working for someone, is all my family & I knew. I am the first entrepreneur in my family. This dream of mine was kind of foreign to most, even to myself. Not only did I not have the support from my family but I also had a 2 year old son, I just moved out of my parents house for the first time and money was tight but God is not checking your bank account, he’s checking your faith. So, I took that huge leap of faith and quit my job. I was designing clothes out of my closet, doing custom work, participating in networking events, pop up shops, and fashion shows all over, to get my name out there and although it pushed me to work harder than I ever worked. It was all worth it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a fashion designer with over seven years of experience and the founder of the fashion brand, Savvy Nevaeh. I specialize in designing, draping, tailoring and perfecting sustainable “slow” fashion garments for both men and women. My work blends urban culture with refined tailoring, creating bold, distinctive pieces that empower individuals to express their identity with confidence. Throughout my career, I have showcased my designs at numerous events across the DFW area, including fashion shows, pop-up shops and networking events, and have launched several alluring collections. In 2019, I had the opportunity to intern for designer, Jourali, during New York Fashion Week at the Society Fashion Show. I was also featured in Los Angeles Fashion Week at the Los Angeles Convention Center in October 2022.
While fashion has always been my passion, I realized that people support people— not just products. That understanding led me to build my personal brand, Jadadan, and take my YouTube channel more seriously. Allowing my audience to truly get to know me beyond my designs. I create faith-based, lifestyle, fashion and beauty content that reflects my real life.
I am a wife, a mother to a boy who is now five year old and a follower of Christ. I live a beautifully multifaceted life, and I invite my audience into it. Through real, authentic, yet aesthetically intentional content, I create space for women to feel inspired, seen and confident in who they are becoming.
My mission is not only to design garments, but to design impact through fashion, faith and authenticity. Whether through Savvy Nevaeh or my digital platforms, I aim to build a legacy that empowers others to walk boldly in their purpose and personal style.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I believe pivot is my middle name at this point. Ever since starting a business I have had to consistently move things around, well let’s just say GOD DID. He has shifted my whole world many times and although at the moment it felt uncomfortable, it was always for my greater good. I can recall many moments where I had to pivot but one that sticks out the most to me is the current role that I’m in now. Creating a personal brand is not easy. I originally believed it was unnecessary. I’ve studied many successful fashion designers that built their name without actually being visible. I thought that my work could just speak for itself and although it can and does we just live in a different time and age. Social media has definitely taken over. It was brought to my attention that people don’t just buy products, they buy people. Building a personal brand has definitely been the toughest but most rewarding pivot I could have ever done for my business.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I believe I’m still trying to figure this one out but I can share the steps that I took to get started. At first, I started a business savings account and every paycheck that I received from my 9-5 I would put at least 10% in my business savings for fabric funding, marketing, travel & etc. After doing lots of research, I took a huge leap of faith and applied for a business loan. This not only helps build income but trust and also a way to network.
