We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacquie & Jake Prouty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacquie & Jake below.
Hi Jacquie & Jake, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
We hope the legacy we build as resort owners—and as a family—extends far beyond cabins and bookings. We want our lives and our resort to be remembered as a place where people felt the peace and presence of Jesus. A place where families reconnected, laughter echoed through the trees, and people felt known, cared for, and deeply valued.
We don’t just want to run a resort—we want to cultivate a community. We hope people will say we loved people well, that we created space for rest, joy, and togetherness, and that we lived generously—with our time, our home, and our hearts.
More than anything, we want to be remembered as a family who followed Jesus with our whole lives. That we parented and led with intentionality, prayed bold prayers, and lived out our faith in quiet, daily faithfulness. We hope our son, and Lord-willing our future children, grow up seeing that life is not about building a name, but building God’s Kingdom.
If people remember us as a family who opened their doors, loved deeply, worked hard, laughed often, and lived with eternity in mind—that would be more than enough.

Jacquie & Jake, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’re a husband-and-wife team who own and operate a small, family-focused resort in Northern Minnesota named Jack Pines Resort. Our journey into this industry wasn’t about chasing a business dream—it was about creating a lifestyle rooted in meaning, connection, and purpose. We wanted to build something that reflected our values: hard work, hospitality, family, rest, and time in nature.
We didn’t come from a long line of resort owners, but we were drawn to the idea of curating a place where people could slow down and be present with one another—whether around a bonfire, out on the lake, or tucked into a cozy cabin playing cards. Owning a resort has allowed us to do just that, while also raising our son close to the land and community we love.
At our resort, we offer cabin & campsite rentals for families, couples, and groups looking to reconnect, recharge, and make memories in a beautiful, peaceful setting. We take pride in offering not just clean and comfortable lodging, but a warm and personal experience. Whether it’s helping you plan a fishing trip, offering local recommendations, or simply greeting you by name—we’re hands-on and happy to serve.
What sets us apart is the intentionality behind everything we do. We’re not a big operation or a corporate chain. We’re a small family, living on-site, pouring our hearts into creating a place where people feel at home. Our guests aren’t just customers—they’re part of the story we’re building here. Many return year after year, becoming like extended family.
We’re most proud of the atmosphere we’ve created—one where guests can truly unplug, where kids can run barefoot, and where families can share unhurried time together. We love watching traditions form here: annual visits, grilling great food, early morning coffee in the peace of the woods, and late-night s’mores by the fire.
If there’s one thing we’d want you to know about us and our resort, it’s this: we’re here to help you make meaningful memories. Whether you’re seeking adventure, stillness, or a little bit of both, we’ve created a space where you can breathe deeply and reconnect—with nature, your loved ones, and yourself.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the biggest tests of our resilience came a couple years into our time owning the resort. It was our third full season, and we were learning the ropes in all new ways—how to manage bookings, maintain the cabins, balance guest needs, and care for the property—all while raising our young son. Just as we were finding a rhythm, a series of unexpected challenges hit: staffing fell through, equipment broke down, and there were days we felt stretched far beyond our limits.
There were moments we looked at each other and wondered, “Are we really cut out for this?” But instead of giving up, we leaned in. We got creative, took things one day at a time, and reminded ourselves why we were doing this. We took turns watching our son while the other cleaned cabins, tackled projects late into the night, and stayed focused on serving our guests with excellence, even when we were running on fumes.
What got us through wasn’t just grit—it was our deep belief in the vision we had for this place: a resort where people feel seen, cared for, and at peace. Looking back, that season didn’t break us. It shaped us. It taught us how to work as a team under pressure, how to adapt quickly, and how to show up—even when things felt messy or uncertain.
Resilience, for us, hasn’t been about having it all together. It’s been about pressing on when it would be easier to pull back. And it’s made the fruit of this work—happy families, returning guests, laughter around bonfires—all the more meaningful.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson we had to unlearn was that success meant doing everything ourselves. When we first started running the resort, we felt like we had to handle it all—every task, every detail—without asking for help. But that mindset quickly led to burnout.
The turning point came during a particularly busy week when a friend offered to help clean cabins. We said yes—and it was a game changer. We realized that accepting help doesn’t make us weak; it makes us healthier, stronger, and more focused on what truly matters.
Since then, we’ve learned to share the load, trust others, and value community over self-sufficiency. It’s made our business more sustainable and our life more joyful.
