We were lucky to catch up with Jacob Woo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jacob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Determination and belief in yourself is a recipe for any type of success in my opinion. When I quit my job to start my business I didn’t know everything but I had so much self belief that I told myself that I’ll start with what I know and I’ll let failure and experience teach me what I don’t know. When I started my business for the first 3-4 months things where really slow getting leads but I stayed determined and woke up early everyday to post on social media and introduce myself to people at big box stores. Basically do whatever I could to just to get into peoples homes because I believed in myself and my flooring crews-that I knew if I could just get into someones home I can sell them and it will snowball after that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jacob Woo Jr and I am a Texas native. Born and raised in Dallas, Tx. I got introduced to the Flooring world through a highly respected family friend. Every summer I would help him and his crew with flooring installations. I started out by just unloading boxes, cleaning up, and loading up the trash. Soon after I started helping install the flooring. The work was very hard and I kept thinking of ways to make the same amount of income without doing so much physical labor. I got a position as a warehouse worker for a flooring company. In a very short time I worked my way up to be a salesman and then a manager of a location. I didn’t want to stop there so I took what I learned and started my own company that I get to run how I want and help the customers that truly need it without having to go through the chain of command. I help clients choose the flooring that fits their needs and lifestyle. I also help with the installation of the material they choose. Because we have amazing professional installation crews that get the job done the right way. Which makes me the most proud. When I started this business my whole goal was to create a strong foundation to build on. So I only work with installers who I trust that won’t cut corners or complete a job that I wouldn’t want done in my home. Another part of that strong foundation was a strong internet presence. We upload videos, pictures, and reels of our work for the whole DFW to view. Since I focused on doing the best possible job installation wise and showing off that work on social media it has helped us grow to where we are now. We have great reviews and an A+ BBB rating. Our installation crews and the work we all put in everyday makes me the most proud throughout this young journey so far.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I started this business with an $1,100 loan from a good friend and about $2k of credit. I was able to start with very little initial capital. Mainly because of my relationships in the industry and the fact that I focused my funding on a strong website and purchasing leads. Plus it helped that my wife and I lived in a one bedroom apartment and she paid the bills until JW Flooring was in good standing.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I would say that if you haven’t read a Neville Goddard Book you should definitely give at least one of his books a try. He even has impactful 12 page short books that is very inspirational.
