We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jackson Bivens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackson, thanks for joining us today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I applied to Docherty Talent Agency in November of 2020. I was referred to them by my good friend Robert Bray. He’s a talented actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter. I auditioned through Zoom right after my 29th birthday. I read a sample script they emailed to me, and they liked my voice and cadence. They said I would hear from them within a week if they’re interested. They sent me the contract two days later.

Jackson, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jackson Deonne Bivens. My gamertag is “JB Wolf.” I am an actor and a cosplayer. I am from Cincinnati, OH. After attending Cleveland State University since 2010, I moved to Cleveland, OH, in 2015, and it has been my home since. I grew up playing basketball, studying Taekwondo, and running cross-country.
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for acting. To this day, I quote lines from movies, television shows, ads and commercials. My real passion is voice acting. I often dream about starring in animated movies, cartoon series, anime, and video games. I have dabbed into cosplay in recent years. The day I make my return (after this hiatus) will be remembered.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the profound sense of personal fulfilment, freedom of expression, and the ability to turn inner visions into tangible, shareable, and sometimes, sellable work. It offers immense mental, emotional, and intellectual satisfaction, often serving as a therapeutic, stress-reducing outlet that fosters deep, authentic connections with oneself and others.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I dropped out of college in 2019. It is a very long story. I do not wish to bore you with the details. All my life, I was always a student (or student-athlete at times). I took breaks from school in 2013 and 2018 (for personal reasons). Cleveland became a convenient city for me. It welcomed me on day one. With all of these acting opportunities in the city, I knew I was in the right place.
